Here's a few I can think of-

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin
Deadmau5 - Jaded
Photek - Pulse of Life
Themroc - Mean Red
In Flames - Take This Life
Blue Man Group - Exhibit 13
Blue Man Group - Persona
Way Out West - Mindcircus
Sting - Fields of Gold [Sting writes some of the most thoughtful stuff ever]

And many, many, many, many, many, many, many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many several others...

I'll post some more if I think of em. Also, I'm thinking "emotionally charged" not "sad". Might think of a sad song later though.

It's probably the song "No Tomorrow" by Ron McKernan.
Essentially, it is a suicide note addressed to
Janis Joplin.

Like A Long Time (No Tomorrow)

Lyrics: Ron McKernan
Music: Ron McKernan

Look over yonder tell me what you see
Ten thousand people looking after me
I may be famous
I may be no one
But in the end all our races are run
Don't make my race run in vain
Seems like there's no tomorrow
Seems like all my yesterdays were filled with pain
There's nothing but darkness tomorrow

If you gonna do like you say you do
If you gonna change your mind and walk away
It don't seem to matter anymore
Don't even ask me the time of day 'cause I don't know

Don't make me live in this pain no longer
You know I'm getting weaker not stronger
My poor heart can't stand much more
So why don't you just stop talking
If you gonna walk out that door
Start walking

I'll get by somehow
Maybe not tomorrow, but somehow
I know someday I'll find someone
Who can ease my pain
Like you once done
Yes, I know
We had a good thing goin'
Seemed like a long time
Seemed like a long time
Like a long time
Like a long time

I, I didn't realize what was happening
I didn't realize what was happenin' to my life
Till it was almost too late to save it
When I needed you
I needed you to lean on
You took my love and never gave it
Well this time is goodbye, so long
Maybe I must say, "take care and goodbye, so long"
Goodbye little girl I'm gone

You can go out and take your love
And give it to anybody
Who but a fool like me, would take it?
And maybe if they got a strong, strong heart
Then your love won't break it
But I'm gone, goodbye so long

I certainly do. Billie Holiday has her own place in music. no one is quite as forlorn but sincere at the same time. awesome.

really IS one like that ...at least for me. It's a Nigerian Christmas song and it's a tradition that the Morehouse Men's Glee Club performs it annually. It was about 15 years ago at an ASO Christmas concert (another Atlanta tradition started many years ago by Robert Shaw)that I first heard this piece. While the whole performance of traditional (but not so much of the "tired") Christmas songs is always great... I've always had a place in my heart for African music...especially Olantunji. Betelehemu has been one of my faves (not just a Christmas fave...) since then. While it loses a LOT in translation on this video, I hope some of the intensity and emotional urgency comes thru. It certainly does in person.

Speaking of rappers, I say Immortal Technique has some very emotionally charged stuff out there, try listening to "Bin Laden" and the remix. It's pretty controversial stuff though... might offend some. But Immortal Technique speaks out a lot about poverty, racism, and prejudice, and stuff, and it has a lot of emotion. A ton of emotion.
