Link me then to a VA synth demo sample, without external eq/fx/other synths that sounds better than this:

Seriously, I'd love to hear it :)
So you're:

1) telling me that my opinion is wrong,
2) asking me to prove the un-proveable by convincing you that your opinion is wrong, and
3) stating your case using a low-quality mp3 of some less-than-awe-inspiring trance presets?

Alrighty then. You've convinced me.
No, not at all. Like said, I'm just seriously interested to hear a sample of what you think demonstrates the best sound quality of non sample based software synth.

And your point 3, stating that the example I posted is low quality, makes me even wonder more !

I'm surprised how often I hear someone say Sylenth1 sounds 'analog'. It sounds good, but I wouldn't say it sounds analog. Only the filters and oscilaltors on FabFilter's synths or MiniMonsta actually sound 'analog-like' to me. Sylenth1's filter, to me, sounded very clinical and exact, in short, very digital. Not a bad thing, but not very analog-like.

I think people call it analogue, exactly for the reason the guys @ 'Computer Music' called it analogue:
"it's rich, detailed and full of
analogue-style warmth"

It's the 'warmth' that creates the 'analogue' association for a lot of people I think.

That's the whole point - I would never say that there IS a best-sounding synth and I sure as hell wouldn't be naive enough to expect everybody to agree with me if I did. I currently own 3-4 dozen commercial soft synths and 5 hardware synths, and have owned dozens more over the past 25 years or so, and I would not consider any one of the the "best-sounding". It's all subjective.

And, to those of you who say that price has nothing to do with it, sorry, but I don't live in that vacuum. I will always rate a synth based on its sound, its features, and its price.

Bottom line is this - in my opinion, Sylenth1 is NOT the best sounding soft synth in ANY price range. Is that good enough? Too bad, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Carry on.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Slim Phatty | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

Hehe. You can have your opinion buddy. Just was hoping you had the guts to back it up with an audio sample.

ok, first of all your demos are terrible. i'm not going to insult the composition, i'll just say i don't like it. most importantly though we're not wanting to hear your composition, we're wanting to hear the synth.

those demos are also layered with effects, are we listening to reverb, delay and chorus effects here or are we listening to a synth?

again, where are the synth sounds? why is every sound sort of raw and then passed through a complex effects chain? we're not even hearing any features of this so-called great synth in these demos.

last but not least, from what i can hear the synth is absolutely terrible.

now go produce some real demos of your champion.

even a thing i did in five and a half seconds on xhip demonstrates it's filter better than the files you posted demonstrate sylenth's. seriously, go make some real demos.

DOH! It just occurred to me. Sylenth is the new Reaper!

Hehe. First of all, it aren't my demo's (I wish !!), they are Arskun's and for your info, they demonstrate his soundbank that got awarded 10/10 points in CM, just like Sylenth1 itself. And btw, non external effects were used, it's just the synth.

I posted the demo since I personally think it's the best demo ever made, sound quality wise. You obviously disagree, that's perfectly fine, just posted them since I think a sounddemo says a lot more than words.

i thought you were the one just asking for people to back up what they say with audio demos? go make some real demos please. the reason i'm pissed off is actually because i was tricked into bothering to listen to those mp3s, and the poor quality sound of them threw me into a rage. honestly, i was hoping to hear a great synth with all the praise the thing gets, and here again i'm left absolutely astonished at the horrible stuff people believe is "the best".

please, show me some great sounds. i'm telling you those ones are horrible, HORRIBLE.

anybody can make better demos of a synth than that. for the sake of my faith in my fellow man, please go make something decent and impress me with this synth.

if you grab my demos you might notice i run the synth raw into the input and apply minimum effects. a little reverb or delay is ok if it's set -12db just to give some 3d quality to the mono audio.

in all of my demos there are either a single track of a monophonic synth, or multiplexed versions with 5 or 6 tracks. it's ok to use some sampled drums, but do not mix synths.

try to use lots of variation in patching and demonstrate the FEATURES of the synth, not just the "sound". we want to be able to hear specifically the quality of envelopes, modulators, filters, oscillators and the various modulations available in all levels of complexity. from the basic square patch to the complicated hoover/trance pad. thick ressy filter stabs and modeled patches, for example brass, flute, guitar, vocal and others.

that is what a demo is supposed to be, in my opinion. listening to anything less gives me absolutely no useful information about a synthesizer. it's like demoing a paint brush by showing a famous painting - what exactly has the specific brush imparted to the painting that any other brush could not?

Again, buddy, I didn't make the demo, it's Arksun's and although you think it's HORRIBLE, the fact that Computer Music rewarded him with 10/10 points means he must have done SOMETHING good :) And I'm not going to compose a demo, I really don't care what you think, I just posted what I thought was a great example of Sylenth1's power, to add something to this thread. You disagree. That's fine with me. Try to respect other people's opinion's like i do yours.

well take your whole bit on "back up what you say with clips" and GTFO then, seriously. i've posted my clips, you've posted nothing.

I don't think CronoX3 gets the props it deserves. Seriously, I'd take CronoX over Sylenth anyday without question. I personally didn't find much use for Massive, but it sounds WONDERFUL. The Butterfly Stance patch was used on Nas' new track called "Hero". Apparently someone found a gem in there that I didn't.

Anywho...

Blue
Albino
CronoX
Massive
Korg Legacy....especially Analog 2008
SOOOO many banks for Reason
Vanguard
Rapture
Z3ta
Virus Powercore....all day.

All are marvelous SYNTHS with a beautiful sound all their own.

pretty much agree with all of this. And Nexus sounds better than sylenth by a mile. I know refx is hated here but it's the truth. I have no reason to lie.
Nexus is a Sample based Rompler not a Synth. You could download a bunch of Free samples from http://www.Soundsnap.com and get better sounds than Nexus. If you want to go the Sample based route that is but were talking Synthesis here fellas. I wouldn't be surprised if the sound-designers over at reFX have Sampled Sylenth1 for some of the samples in one of their Expansion Sets.

Hehe. Are you always fun like this or are you just having a bad day ? :) Chill out man, this is just a forum to exchange opinions, no need to get all hostile and angry and stuff, which btw, is very bad for your heart as well.

aciddose is a pretty serious dude so I doubt he is joking? But I could be wrong? What are you guys arguing about again? What do you want Decent Sylenth1 Demos with No FX added? I'll post some.

i'm never angry, i'm simpyl calling bullshit. you've told me "i respect your opinion" just after the same issue with another guy where you said "i just hoped you would back it up with demos".

did you listen to the mp3s i posted? you should out of the respect you proclaim you have since i have listened to yours. you can feel free to tell me they're crap and they do/don't sound analog or whatever else after you've heard them, and i will indeed respect your opinion on the matter.

i however will never accept you refusing to admit they sound absolutely nothing like the demos you posted in almost every possible way. you just need to listen to them and understand the differences i've pointed out while describing the type of demos i'd hoped you would make.

do you even own sylenth? if you do it shouldn't be too hard to set it up and play a couple riffs with your favorite patches and demonstrate the types of things i mentioned in my post about "what demos are all about" back there.

if you're not willing to do this how the hell do you expect anyone to take you seriously after the other things you've said?

again, i'm not angry, i'm pointing out things i think you're missing out on. if i ever thought for a moment you weren't a bright or honest guy i wouldn't have said a damn thing to you. just don't let me down.
