You would like Porcupine Tree's earlier stuff if you are not familiar with them, they were not really metal at that point, more prog rock in the spirit of Ozric Tentacles/ experimental ambient Pink Floyd with more synthy ambient electronic washes in their music. Like the album Voyage 34, The Sky Moves Sideways, Metanoia, Up The Downstair. It is more chilled out ambient electronic stuff with guitar not being the main focus. The Voyage 34 album/vinyl was a big underground UK hit in the ambient chill out after hour lounges. Steven Wilson incorporates lots of space and ambient stuff in his current more metal/rock albums too, and his Insurgentes solo album and other side projects are more in an electronic/industrial synth based category, like his Bass Communion project, which is all drone/ambient stuff. It's really hard to pin a music genre on them/him, but progressive/eclectic rock is the best way to describe the way they write. Richard Barbieri (of Japan fame) is the keyboardist in Porcupine Tree, and he takes a textural ambient approach to the parts he writes for the band.valhallasound wrote:I've never heard any music quite like this.Metalifuxx wrote:This is a prog melodic metal type song similar to...Porcupine Tree

Cool track, The beginning reminds me a little of Thin Lizzy.metalifuxx wrote:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6185854/Andy%20 ... est%29.mp3
Valhalla Shimmer used on all tracks and as a send. This is a prog melodic metal type song similar to Opeth/Iron Maiden/Porcupine Tree, with Shimmer to add some space/ ambience, Eventide pitch special effects, and some chorus. I just used the presets and tweaked the mix a little, so I barely scratched the surface of what this plugin is capable of in the hour or so of first trying it.

The tone definitely has that Rangemaster/TS808 through a Marshall vibe. Which is a sound I love, although my current version of that rig (Traynor YBA-1 through 4x12 with G12H30 Celestions) is far too loud for the survival of my ears. Most of my development time on Shimmer was in front of a compiler, but I NEED my ears.alexfalcao wrote: Cool track, The beginning reminds me a little of Thin Lizzy.

I don't think you would get richard Barbieri to play in a metell-band, and since he hasn't left yet that should mean they still aren't metell...metalifuxx wrote:they were not really metal at that point

Is the final Windows version any different to the beta version you posted to the OS X purchasers? Because that's the most recent link for a windows download that I have.valhallasound wrote:The Windows VST (32-bit) version of ValhallaShimmer is now available for sale and for demoing.

The presets are in a folder in the zip you downloaded. You must manually load them from your host. It seems that a proper presets browser will be implemented shortly.Gucky wrote:I just tested the windows demo version.
It sounds fantastic but I cannot found any presets.
Is that a limitation of the demo?

The only difference that I know of between the version that is currently available to purchasers and that which I sent out to OSX purchasers is that one version is called 1.0.1b, and the other is called 1.0.1. No difference in the code between them.blurk wrote:Is the final Windows version any different to the beta version you posted to the OS X purchasers? EDIT: I just sent a link for the 1.0.1 Windows VST release to all Shimmer customers.

Just trying this out on Win7 Pro/32-bit with no problems. Sounds amazing. Or should I say... absolutely A M A Z I N G !!! Very little cpu hit and am able to run multiple instances. Trying out the +12/+7/+5 shift that were mentioned, as well as other fun stuff.

How do you load the presets?
The installation "manual" told to put the preset folder wherever you
want but I can't see any preset-load knob in the plugin (in Live8 anyway). H.

For now, you must load the presets from your host. It seems there will be a presets browser soon.Harry_HH wrote:How do you load the presets?
