Also, are there no MIDI FX in Studio One? (i.e., arps, chorders, humanizers, etc.) If so, that's... unusual.

Post

I've been using the demo for a couple of days and I like the workflow very much. But I'm a bit worried about my vsts.

To get many/most of them to work (i.e. the 32 bit ones) I have to use jbridge (seems to be the best at what it does.) I've heard that Studio One is extremely stable, but Studio One plus jbridge = not so much. For example, jbridge only(!) supports 34 outputs, so it complains about things like d16's Nepheton or Kontakt 64. I think it was most likely jbridge that caused the whole program to freeze once as well.

If there is a 2.0 in the not too distant future then so far my top request would be to address this issue with 32 bit vsts. Either by doing a Sonar and licensing jbridge or finding their own solution. As it is I'm unsure about things because I have to rely on 3rd party software to get things working and, as I've said, that way is not without problems.

Right click on the event and "Split Event". It splits at every quantize value division... 1/8ths or whatever it's set to. It works the same way in the midi key editor for single midi notes.

Sure you can. I have custom Impact kits using Battery samples. Not sure why you'd think that was the case?

There are early frustrations and confusions when using any unfamiliar product so I'd say don't give up so easily. I experienced similar with Reaper, it didn't start to "take" (make any sense at all) until my second or third go at it.

why do you need to use jbridge,is it because you run a 64-bit OS??

Yes. Windows 7 64 bit.

You're welcome. My participation here isn't as a cheerleader and I hope it isn't being taken that way... though I obviously like S1 a lot, but it's not for everyone, some will not and do not like it at all... and some reasons given for that are perfectly valid afaict.

Just trying to ease the early frustrations (if any) of people diving in after the great deal.

There's some things which may not be immediately obvious, like the splitting you asked about, so if you have general questions ask or ask on the official forum.

Did you buy into Pro SNS or are you just using the Artist version?

i bought artist and after using it for some hours,i bought into pro
just for the mastering suite actually, because i was in the look out for a nice mastering enviroment anyway,so it was just perfect for me.

i make my music in renoise, and my plan is to use studio one for arrangement, mixing and mastering

Ok thanks. The only reason I asked is because there are some bundled audio plugs in Pro that aren't in Artist like the multiband comp. If you get a chance, play around with that one a little bit, it's pretty nice imo.

Same goes for the Analog Delay... very useful plug that's not in Artist.

ok thanks i will check those out

one thing i find is a bit weird is when i create a mono track, and then drag n drop studio ones own synth mojito onto the created track.studio one creates a new track under neath??

do you know why,or have you also experienced that??

EDIT:also just found out about the ability to draw figures in automation, and ive made some cool sounding effects that way,but think that was already possible from ver 1,5

One of the cool things about S1 is not having to worry about creating/setting up tracks first. Just drag the synth from the Browser into the main window and it does it all for you.

Or is it that you want to change the Mojito track into mono?

i just find it weird that when i drag n drop mojito to a mono track,it also creates a stereo track underneath the mono track?

OK I'm probably doing something wrong but since there seems to be a possible workaround for adding Kore (full) I decided for £13 it would not hurt to try. However I can't seem to work out how to insert an instrument properly. I dragged an instance of the built in synth (Mojito) for starters and I'm sure I've set up my io's right as the midi input is flashing when I press a key but I'm getting no sound and the mixer is not showing any audio being outputted. The little monitor icon is blue which I presume means "on" - do I need to click on something else?
