It's a fact. The thing is more about balance between frequency and too loud high noises than dynamic range at all.RuediRena wrote:No, don't do it. Don't change your ways. Low DR? What, the voting period ends, and there are no votes by V'ger or Irion? Also not by some of the participants? (bzur, I'm looking at you). This thing is totally rigged, man!
According to my unofficial tally, PWM wins by a large margin. Big congrats PWM!
Many thanks to everyone who listened, commented on, and voted for my track.

There might exist a lot less of facts in music than we think. AFAIC a lot of the 'facts' are conventions and common agreements, nearly always a good thing, but sometimes wonderful new things may come from making mistakes.N.E.X. wrote:It's a fact.
Remember those beat musicians in the early to mid 60s desperately fighting with sound engineers for a dirtier, overdriven sound and in most cases, no, you couldn't do that! It was against the rule.
Have a nice day (and unofficial congratulations to PWM)

Thank you everyone! With all the great entries this month, I thought for sure I'd be much lower in the pecking order of things.
And what a month!
I really liked working with Dune! Once I got into the mod-matrix I couldn't stop! Very soon, I'd like to upload the patches I programmed to KVR, and maybe throw in some new ones. I'll let you know on the OSC general discussion thread when it's ready.
Unfortunately I probably won't be participating with Retrologue this month. I got a lot of stuff to take care of at home, but I'll be back really soon, and look forward to even tougher competitions (and voting!)
OSC means a lot to me. Putting in an entry like "Great Hunter in the Sky" gives me a feel for what people think of the music I do. And I appreciate all of your feedback, encouragement, and inspiration.
So, thanks again for all your votes, and congratulations to Jasinski and AdagioCM for entries that blew me away!

Now that it is official, big congratulations again Paul! And Jasinski, congratulations for the second place, earned despite the "handicap" of having two strong entries dividing up the votes you received. Great job guys!
This is the first time I managed to make it to the top 3 (with the narrowest possible of margins
), and I'm extremely happy to have received so many votes in this amazing month!
I second what Paul said: even many of the entries with low or zero votes were really great during this competition. Everyone outdid themselves.
I'm not yet sure if I will participate in the Retrologue competition. I've managed to come up with a few decent sounds so far, but as far as the composition, my muse hasn't been speaking with me for some reason
There is still some time, so we will see if that changes.
Thanks V'ger and Irion for organizing this competition and making this place such a great environment!

PMW- a win well deserved. I thoroughly loved your track!
Congrats to adagiocm too.
Like everyone else said, so many tracks were amazing and easily could have sat at the top. The OSC is such a fun community- divers styles, very nice people, and a good personal monthly exercise.
Thanks everyone who voted for my stuff, I really appreciate then encouragement.
