I know but if he doesn't reinstate v6.4.6 for all paying customer and still decides to force us to upgrade (no matter how good it is) to get an installer, that'll seal the deal for me as a future DiscoDSP customer.jsp1979 wrote:He already did: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 9#p6391669Carbonflake wrote:I'll just wait until George says something on the matter. There is no watermark in Discovery Pro. There is even no protection. Since the recent Bliss there is a License.dat file but it is not even in the zip file... it is sent by email. There is someone here who would be crazy enough to not save that file on an external drive or a CD or a cloud? The same for Discovery Pro: until 6.4.6 (included) there was no protection at all (only since the new 6.5 there is a License.dat file once again as for Bliss sent by email and available in the user account). Before that, there was no protection at all, so it has always been possible to send the missing version from a registered customer to another registered customer, simply by asking previously to George the authorization to do that as long as he is informed and as long as it is within registered customers. And it remains the same today with the protected new versions because the file License.dat is NOT in the zip file. And I'm sure that there are probably not a lot of people who have even thought to thank him for that!hivkorn wrote:I have a backup of 6.4 for Osx , but i'm not sure if it's watermaked or not ...The point here is not whether anyone has a backup but that downloads have been removed without people being informed in advance
Even no protection in the original zip files nor in the zip files of the updates! You know what it means if you missed an update or if you can't download it any more ? KVR is not a small forum with ten users! Not only it is not difficult to ask George (kindly!) if he could send you exceptionally a previous version that by personal reason you have lost (for example because of a crash of your disk and stupidly without having never backed up the installation files and license files) and would need to reinstall, but also it is not difficult either to ask again kindly if another user has it as long as it is between registered users! And it is not made illegally as long as George is informed (by one of them) of the relation between his two registered customers about that help!
George can't keep eternally the previous versions in the registered customers areas! He writes it clearly in the personal customer area of EACH customer! So when talking to him kindly instead of breaking sugar on his back or when asking in private to another customer with the proof of purchase of each one (the enquirer and the potential helper) there is ALWAYS a solution without expressing all these angers that I see in this thread!

No, I am making a developer responsible for the physical support of a product that he LICENSED to me. See, the problem with software is that we don't own it, we just have a license for using it. In the old days, developers supplied us with (usually) two physical supports for the products. It started with floppy disks, then went thorugh to CD-ROMs. Updates were periodically released, and fore those, we were supplied a link (usually temporary) to download them, and then it was our responsibility to take care of the, But if we asked a new ink to download, we usually get it. The rules were transparent, and everybody knew what to expect. Now, developers don't supply physical support for the products anymore. Instead, they give us access to a "user Ara". Fine with me, I find it much better. But I reasonably expect that i can access that area whenever I want, as long as I have a valid license. If a developer can't afford to have that, then he shouldn't have that, and instead supply links for the user to download the products he is entitled to, once they are available.e-modic wrote:You make a Developer responsible for a non existing cloud service! Because YOU can´t handle your backups. Just do the clicks and we wouldn´t have this conversation because then you would make music here and now with your "old" version of D.Pro.fmr wrote: BUT i AM ENTITLED TO HAVE AVAILABLE WHAT I PAID FOR. See? Your logic is unjustified.
So, what is in demand here is transparency, and a correct definition of the rules business is being done. That way, people can make an informed option whether they want to keep supporting it or not. We were asked to pay for an upgrade without even a clear information about what is there, and a roadmap to where this is leading. What if he decides to abandon the product after that? Do you know what's next?
I very much doubt I will value it anymore. He already showed what is his path, and I am not willing to support a developer who is following the "flat, touch, mobile" path. I simply don't care about that. I have a real computer, with a good graphics card, and I want products with good GUIs.e-modic wrote:You will value. One day. He just does his business as a one man show, not Big IT behind him. Added zdff when people needed it and tons of other things. Did free updates. Added small - as you say - cosmetically updates. Menino, just be fair. Just tell me one thing before you are angry again, did you have a Nord Lead 2?fmr wrote: Especially because it was removed without prior notice, and even before the "upgrade" was available. Forced to upgrade? Of course I am not. And I will not, no matter what. Regarding the hours spent... It's up to him. That's why it is HIS business. If he decides to spend 1000 hours developing something that users decide they don't want, who is responsible for the decision? He decided to went that way. It's his call. I simply don't value that, so I don't care.
Regarding the Nord Lead, no, I never had one. You know why? Because, when the Nord Lead came out, I was already around for quite some years, and already had several real synthesizers (even analogue ones), so I never wanted a VA. For that, I always preferred to go the software path. Today status showed how right I was back then. I bought the Discovery for what it is, not for what it mimics - I couldn't care less about that.

I think there is a watermark, because my downloads come with my e-mail quoted in the file name, which, IMO, means they are marked.BlackWinny wrote:There is no watermark in Discovery Pro. If you're updating the software on every email that comes through, yes, you should make a backup too. But very often, people are working on stuff and don't want to break what's working right now – so they don't download because "that's OK, it's in the member's area, I'll get it later". Then when they come to update an OS and decide to get the latest version for which they have paid, they are not going to be pleased to find nothing there and an invitation to pay more to see another download.e-modic wrote:You see, I do not expect that. I would be a little dumb if I do, dude I paid a lot of money for my product. I paid about 148 Euro I think. This in the hand of others? Hell no! f**k a members area. I want to be in charge of my product I worked a day off.aMUSEd wrote:
Yes doing backups is good practice, so what? That has nothing to do with the fact that people expected the products they paid for to be in the members area.

You realize that your name is in the file you download? Still you think it is a good idea to share?BlackWinny wrote:Even no protection! So it is not possible to download the demo, and register that with a serial?

How much does it cost to upgrade to DP6.5 ?

I gotta agree with Black Winny, €19 in upgrade money is not much, and is that all the fuss has been over the last 7 pages in the thread?BlackWinny wrote:Upgraded to 6.5 a minute ago. For 19 euros it's a deal! I'm impatient to discover (yes) the new features you told about in the last months!
