If anyone has been following Wolfgang Palm over the years they will have noticed it's been a series of 'Fall down... Get back up again and repeat'. I've always felt that PPG/Waldorf/Wave should have been as established as companies like Korg or Yamaha etc. The company has developed some of the most innovative hardware synths of the last few decades, fantastic product combined unfortunately with what seems like a not so great business acumen. The NFR seems like a step in the wrong direction as it surely compromises sales... as witnessed on this thread already. The way Fab Filter rewards loyal customers with discounts is also worth copying...

Please be careful as the current PPG products created by Wolfgang Palm and the products from Waldorf are from two different (and competing...) companies.kelvyn wrote:If anyone has been following Wolfgang Palm over the years they will have noticed it's been a series of 'Fall down... Someone mentioned Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V as his synth which is not exactly true while indeed he helped with new wavetables, beta testing and creating factory patches (and of course it's an emulation of one of his hardware synths). Programming of the plugin was done by others in that case (Wolfram Franke and Stefan Stenzel).
It is also quite sure that people who really like the synths of both PPG and Waldorf will get their products regardless of stuff like e.g. which copy protection is used or what the license transfer policy is.
Generally i don't really like if a product could not be resold but if i am really interested in a certain synth this should not be No. 1 priority.
There should be also a demo for Wavemapper 2 soon (at Facebook next week was mentined for this, there is already one for Wavegenerator) so people could check the synth before they decide to buy it.
Just a few thoughts...

Where's the best place to put in a feature/update request ?
The LFO's don't go nearly slow enough and what exactly does the lowest OWN value of 23.2 for LFO speed signify ?

Thank you for pointing that out... I was always under the impression that Palm was a part of Waldorf. My bad! Too many Wolfgangs I suppose;)Ingonator wrote:Please be careful as the current PPG products created by Wolfgang Palm and the products from Waldorf are from two different (and competing...) companies.kelvyn wrote:If anyone has been following Wolfgang Palm over the years they will have noticed it's been a series of 'Fall down... Actually at Waldorf it was Wolfram (not Wolfgang) and he left Waldorf a whie ago (which is sad IMO and caused a little trouble concerning the current Waldorf plugin updates...).kelvyn wrote: Thank you for pointing that out... This is the new website/product of Wolfram Franke:

If they want that people don't sell their plugins very easy, they must put it on E-Licenser. So the plugins are not NFR but you must find
someone with a E-Licenser. But the NFR thing is absolute "NO" for me when I buy a plugin

Ive bought the bundle and Im very pleased with it,
but I thought, id also register here, than I had a few concerns prior to buying, for reasons others are stating in this thread.
The NFR was a 'concern', but I decided its uncommon for me to sell anyway, but Im in agreement with the the general consensus here, it shouldn't be NFR. If PPG have concerns over admin costs, copy protection etc, then I think they should as others have pointed out, then they should look for other solutions.
I also think the 7 day demo has two flaws:
- often, you cannot dedicate enough time, to a complex plugin over a week duration because of other commitments. (e.g. perhaps you only have an hour or so, which you can use) ... other mechanisms are better, e.g. not saving, limited number of 'runs', audio noise.
- I demo'd WaveGenerator when it was released, so was unable to demo it again. this limitation was nearly counterproductive, as last time I was not impressed, but now with fresh eyes/ears and knowledge and in combination with WaveMapper I'm actually liking it much more.
Finally, I think its a big shame that NFR/demo limitations and concerns are overshadowing discussions of the product, again seems very counterproductive for PPG.
Ending on a positive note, I spent quite a few hours yesterday getting a much deeper understanding of wavemapper (and wavegenerator), its not simple, and a bit quirky in places, but now I'm getting used to it, its really powerful and straightforward to get some really interesting and musical sounds.
also its flexibility with controllers/automation is not shown in the video e.g. its possible to have an external controller or your DAW move things around in the sound map, this is awesome, so not only do you have 'evolving' wave tables, but you can even evolve the construction of the sounds themselves.
so many possibilities.

Just got a reply. The value for the LFO speed (in OWN mode) is BPM, not Hz.Ingonator wrote:I just sent your request to Mr. Palm.Dunc wrote:Where's the best place to put in a feature/update request ?

I discussed a lower LFO speed with Mr- Palm and theorectically it would be possible. Let's see if it will be included updates in the future Until then for very slow wavetable scans the enveleope could be very useful.
The Loop mode in the enveleopes combined with the right time scale could emulate a slow LFO modulation. For example using the Loop mode you could create something like this:

In this example the time scale is 20s so the modulation is quite slow.
Also something like this is possible with the Loop mode of the enveleope:

Same is also possible with the Pitch envelope (like for the wavetables there is one for each Osc).
BTW one hint concerning Host Sync for both the LFOs and the Arpeggiator:
For using the Sync mode properly you have to start playback in your host.

I don't think he ever has sales, does he? I mean besides the introductory one, kind of like u-he.

At the current price, the differences from WaveGenerator are not sufficient to warrant the price (for me). If the price doesn't come down, I don't plan on buying it. Plus, it just doesn't feel right that new customers can receive a bundle discount and a similar deal is not available for existing customers.

@ Ingonator
Thanks for getting in touch with Mr Palm.
I did think the value 23.2 was BPM related, but was not entirely sure, so thanks for clearing that up.
I hope he can give us an update with a slower BPM figure, something like 4 would be better.
I have been using the envelopes with loops to do just as you outlined in the absence of a slow LFO.
Thanks for your info.
