To the question of what I prefer ABOUT Studio Ones browser over Mediabay, it's very simple..

SPEED/Workflow, immediately once I bought Cubase 8 my first intention was to check out the new dockable mediabay. I was simply let down, the idea that I have to put a check mark by any folders that I want to browse is simply ridiculous..

Cubase has to scan my files to learn my system's files? I don't need that, Excuse me ,but I've got a great idea on where all my files are,and if I want to tag something and go thru all that,ok cool,BUT at least give me the option NOT TO..

I have terabytes of samples, I'm not tagging them all, n neither would i ever. Do I want to be able to browse them quickly when I want to YES! And this is the simplicity yet power Studio One has over Cubase.

I can't stand the way Studio One looks compared to Cubase 8 now, I think Steinberg did a great job on the GUI, but overall speed and workflow, I still prefer Studio One.

I've tagged a huge amount of samples and content in Cubase 8, but can't stand working with Mediabay.. I'd probably go back full on with Cubase if they allowed users a free and open file folder structure option without the need for tagging my content..

The difference in speed/workflow to do the same thing between the DAWs in that example is one key command execution, but Studio One's browser makes it impossible for me to find all my favourite samples in amongst the thousands since it has no rating metadata, so is much much slower for me speed/workflow wise.

We obviously work differently so it's all good.

For those wanting to just manage stuff using folders, you can enable the tree pane. You then use the tree pane exactly how the media is organized. It will restrict based on which folder is selected and the filter will be applied to what is in that subset of folders. As previously stated this doesn't work in the docked bay though.

Can't wait until the next version of studio one. Wait until Native Instruments get maschine right and fix the sequencer. Workflow doesn't seem a priority for Steinberg. I like their stuff, but it seems features are more important.

I'm with you on that - but I don't think it's going to happend anything there.

Cakewalk had at least the guts to rework Sonar into the X-series, it took three years to X3 before it was replacing 8-series though. It still is lacking some customization from 8-series.

Steinberg having much more resources should be able to do complete remake in one year. I was hoping for C8 - but I was wrong there - just new addon paddings on a really out-of-date interface. Maybe many prefer this fixed premade folders for different type of tracks, I don't know. I've come to like the idea having track folders hide away things I don't need right now but containing everything when I need it - tracks, busses, the lot in the same folder.

Now that the first maintenance update is out, any significant improvements?

And any word of a demo yet?
I'm pretty much constantly having an eye on local publishers if there is an LE of C8. So far, not dice. Guess I still have to wait. After NAMM maybe?

Aside from the absurdly skinny scroll bars in the arrange window and a few color tweaks here and there, the look and feel of Cubase 8 is pretty much the same as v7x - it's a dated, gradient-heavy, overly-stylized holdover from the designs that were common around 2002. Someone needs to (re)send the memo to Steinberg's visual designers that the world has moved on from that look and feel.

This bizarre window-management is working against my productivity.

The text on the main menu keeps disappearing. How did this get past beta-testing? Why hasn't it been fixed yet?

And using the same VST's, it crashes much more than Reaper.
