But as was once said, in a far different context, "he who has ears to hear, let him hear."

OK trying the demo this afternoon. How do you stop it playing the notes from a plugin for you? I just want to play freely and assign the modulators to things like filters etc, not have it sequence my notes. Tried to init it but it still insists on sequencing the notes I play. I need to be able to turn off the clock when it comes to notes.

for clarity... You want to play midi thru the plugin but only want the plugin to pass along the motion track info not associated with the chord/note/polyphony portion in the top of the parameter track assignments? So everything from the mix on down?
Also, are you hosting the synth inside Obscurium or send the data via cc msgs to an external synth?

Yeah I want to just be able to play the plugin (hosted by Obsurium) using my keyboard without Obscurium creating additional notes itself - I thought I could just use it to create interesting evolving modulations for other params - what I don't want is for it to sequence notes (although I would like to use the scales feature to constrain notes to a scale).

go to the PITCH tab and activate the "Midi Only" button.
Its the one with the Midi icon, between scale and chord menu.
plus, put the vertical fader on the AMP ENV tab to the bottom.
So notes will be triggered by midi and not by the trigger sequencer.
then no notes will be generated, only live midi will be played.
best

Thanks - doing that with the init preset and Lounge Lizard so there shouldn't be anything being modulated but for some reason the sound still seems somehow gated. Also can I use the scales still and play like this?

could not reproduce gated sound with the init preset plus the steps I described.
the scales are not working on midi only mode.
I will have a look into this, ditched it in the release version for complexity reasons

Custom scales and chords would be highly appreciated! Then I'm close to join inSugar Bytes wrote:could not reproduce gated sound with the init preset plus the steps I described.

also for complexity reasons, user chord tables were dropped.
imagine dialing in 8x24 values for a chord table. we thought that might feel a bit boring.
since so many scales are available already, custom scales were not planned.
but there might be an easy way to implement this, so we will reconsider

the midi cc assignment thing seems a bit hacked on ....
a bona-fide 'midi mode' would be better.
as it currently stands, you set midi assignments in the general-setup tab. So while the Obscurium functions in either 'OSC' (built in synth) mode, or 'Plugin' mode, Obscurium also outputs corresponding midi cc's and note data. fair enough, and that can be useful and should be kept.
however. consider how this is in use for someone just solely looking to sequence midi.
[a] in OSC mode, you're wasting CPU on the built in synth that you don't need.
in OSC mode, the names for the modulation lanes are completely arbitrary to the midi CC's you're sequencing.
[c] in Plugin mode, you can at least save CPU by not loading a plugin. kool.
[d] however - in Plugin mode the names for the modulation lanes are simply 'unassigned' ... just as user-unfriendly as arbitrary names.
a bona-fide 'midi mode' should operate by:
[a] turning off the inbuilt synth.
show, at the very least, the assigned midi CC numbers as the names of the modulation lanes. (i.e CC27, CC48, CC95 etc)
[b1] ideally allow some kind of custom naming for the midi assignents as the default names have a very high probability of also being completely arbitrary to their actual purpose - even though yes, these are the general purpose midi names. nevertheless, it would be ideal to allow custom naming.
[c] ideally allow the assigning of midi CC values from within the main plugin window, without having to go into the general settings tab.
a & b are the really essential improvements imo. b1 & c would be ideal, but could just about still justify a purchase without them.
cheers
(ps: I hope I haven't overlooked something, and there is actually a bona-fide midi mode. apologies in advance if so)

Ultraloop is good but significantly different from Obscurium.inkwarp wrote:they seem to churn out this type of thing every other week...
