thanks for the news. looking forward to whatever comes of this. such great tools

i too would love to see your modular CDP environment eventually released, Xenakios!
to my personal taste, the VST hosting feature is not necessary.
i hope you feel inspired by this project again one day soon.

Yup being quietly watching this topic for awhile. Hopefully you might have the time to revisit some day!

Don't forget that CDP is still perfectly usable today, particularly on Windows where you can run the Soundshaper front end - much more user friendly than the cross-platform Soundloom. I've very little experience with Soundloom, but I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have about CDP and to help get you up and running with Soundshaper.

Thanks mate!

On Os x 10.8.5 still and just installed CDP before having to go back to Max for a project. Will have a look again and might hit you up if thats ok!

Thanks!

yah i've got Soundshaper running through Wine on OSX.
the interface is not horrible, but it lacks batch processing
(maybe Xenakios' project does too).

i know Trevor's SoundLoom offers batch,
but the tcl/tk gui is really quite difficult to wrap my head around.

there is a LUA plugin for Renoise that's okay.
also it's nice just in the command line. . .

but Xenakios' interface appeared much more intuitive than these options.

heavy-duty necro, I know, but for anyone using CDP, there's a brand-new, node-based graphical front-end in development, called SoundThread.

Ha - now that looks interesting!
Thanks for the heads up - I had mostly forgotten about the CDP...

Dont get your hopes up, weve been here before

It's a good point but we have to have faith that at least one of these brave souls will endure the painful path and get us the CDP vintage code in a form which more users can relate to, and possibly understand the depth thereof.

Initial tests give me some confidence this guy will persist!
Let's hope for the best but remain realistic. Actually engaging with the product, using it, and letting him know your likes and dislikes about it will give him a reason to continue, I might suggest :) .. if you have the time

Yeah, it's not as if our lives depend on it, but I found it always sad that such a resource is almost unusable because of commandline or antique interfaces.
I am using a ton of node based tools for my work (like for instance https://tixl.app for visuals) and this looks good - I'll have to dive in deeper to see how it feels in actual usage.

Cheers!

Even if this 0.2 beta ends up being the 'final' version (I'm sure it wont be) I've still managed to get great results from Soundthread. Plus he's open sourced it so worst comes to the worst and it does get abandoned then someone cleverer than I could just re-pick up the project

Okay, I played a bit with it and it is really impressive. Very stable, very well thought out and intuitive and a lovely interface.

Best thing that ever happened to CDP I'd say :-)

I like your perspective and your willingness to have some faith. You're not completely "black-pilled." CDP is absolutely bonkers, but in a good way. It does have quite a steep learning curve. But for those with copious amounts of patience and a desire to learn, it can also reward users with unheard of audio transformations and weird effects. And I would love to see it get updated. 8)

Maybe you know the answer… Will CDP used with SoundThread work on the latest Macs? I still have an Intel Mac with MacOS 12.7.6 Monterey and I believe that I will be able to use CDP and SoundThread here, but I'm going to switch to one of the newest Macs in a near future.
