You have to create drums with the synth, it's not too hard. :)
...for some of us maybe! I'm working hours on a decent sounding snare! :P
Failure is success in progress.

I wish I could take part this month but I think I'm too busy again :( Damn real life commitments, why can't we just make music all the time? :help:
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Yep, you're absolutely right! But if we could, we wouldn't be the ones we are...
Especially with this wonderful instrument it's really bad not to join in...
Let's see what next month's competition will bring.
If you don't fail - you didn't even try

I recommend to just lower your demands on yourself and have a few minutes of fun every other day rather than watching some show or the likes. You will do yourself a great favor, because it energizes you and strengthens your mind to make music! It brings balance to your brain's hemispheres, something that work often pushes to the left. :borg:

So, enjoy a great synth and heal yourself a little with just making a simple track! :phones:

Doing that now. Don't have much time so doing something a bit simpler. Any track is better than no track.
Well for me anyway. Others may decide when they can't deliver the goods up to their own standards they are not gonna do it.
Personally I don't feel like I have to make a masterpiece every month :hihi:

I only ever missed one synth I liked or was curious about. The others I simply didn't want to torture myself with.
I think the OR2v burned me a bit on synths I have trouble with (crashy stuff and badly buggy).
But when ever there's a nice enough synth, I wouldn't want to miss a great reason to make music! :hyper:

You're like a kid in a candy store. LOL.

Sometimes, (often?) I have really no idea for a new song but I just mess around with the synth and sounds and something just pops up in my mind.
To me that's actually the most rewarding and amazing thing. Before the OSC I didn't write a song in maybe 15 years.

Probably true for many here ... I audition any presets, muck around with them and from any sort of "init" - see what it'll do, see what modulations are possible and how this can give character to the sounds. As I doodle around I can form some sort of idea. Then the "serious" part happens, write a tune/song ... then the sound design bit happens, which is where lots of work is needed in all the OSC's I've been doing - basically getting the "exact right sound" for the various "parts" of the composition - this is a very iterative process for me as I need the sounds to sit in the mix - very often something in isolation sounds very very different in a mix and needs a hack or even a re-think - just depends.

Just my penniesworth ...

Uh, fun, talking methodology, GREAT!
When I discover a new synth, I always try to find an init preset or make one myself. Then I have a look at the features I can recognize. I first look for the envelopes. Most of the time I start making a key type sound (piano, epiano, anything with a medium decay and short release). Then I check oscillators, their waveforms and any direct manipulation of them. Then I check the filters, see if I can hook an envelope to them. If I can make a decent sound with it already, I will start to play with it to find out how it behaves with its polyphony.
After some (hopeful) fun, I might already have some idea and record a few chords or I go for making drums and percussion.
In between I might flip through some presets, see what people are doing with it, but often I find them not very inspiring and very often they don't do justice to the synth. In case of Helm and Tyrell I found it quite painful, too, with sounds that ripped through my eardrums and other shockers, hahaha.
Anyway, I often start with a track even before I have figured out everything and Tyrell was quite fun in that regard, because of the curious filter concept and hidden treasures. Oddly enough, I haven't really made much use of those treasures, yet, but my song is just little more than an intro thus far.

Methodology?

I throw some stuff in a blender and see what happens.
