From what I remember, no.igoramos wrote:Historically speaking, does Steinberg usually announce the update any time before the actual release date?

Actually they announce the week before. Last year I seem to remember a few days before it was actually available. And now I am seeing in several places that there might be a Halion 6...which would be totally cool.

Halion 5 went for $350. Was it ever discounted?thejonsolo wrote:Actually they announce the week before. Last year I seem to remember a few days before it was actually available. And now I am seeing in several places that there might be a Halion 6...which would be totally cool.

It is part of the Absolute VST Collection 2. If you crossgrade or buy direct it is a fantastic deal either way. Much cheaper than buying it by itself. Some of the plugs are getting old but were really good quality. I expect there will be an upgrade price.Kalamata Kid wrote:Halion 5 went for $350. There has been a discounted sale for Halion 5 (when I bought it!
), but it was a very short sale (I think it was just a weekend) and I think it reserved to people who already owned some Steinberg software (Cubase), though I'm not sure.
I don't remember other sales, so I think it went discounted just once (or twice, but no more).
I bought it in 2015, more than an year after its original release. I don't think it's worth waiting for a discounted sale for Halion, unless you rarely use a sampler.

$500 for Absolute VST Collection 2

Best to wait for Absolute VST Collection 3 which should include Halion 6
I already have Padshop Pro. BTW will there ever be a Padshop Pro 2?
For me it all depends on if Halion 6 gets me excited if I go with the Collection 3.
I forgot.
Thanks for the advice on Absolute VST Collection 2!

Apologies if this has been asked before, though afaict related questions have been asked but not this specific one.
I have a Cubase Artist 8.5 (grace period update from 8 ). If I buy an upgrade to Cubase Pro 8.5 do I get a grace period update to 9? I once read on Steinberg's site that a grace period update can be used only once in a particular cycle, or for a license, or something to that effect.
So my question is, does the Cubase Pro upgrade qualify as a new license? I'm guessing it does but want to make sure. Also, having got a grace period update from Artist 8 to 8.5, would an update from Pro 8.5 to 9 fall within the same cycle or would I be eligible for another grace period update?

Yes - buying that upgrade means you are now a legit Pro v8.5 license owner; regardless of what you did in the past. However, my advice would be to not activate it until you know the exact release/'grace-period' detail of Pro 9 - then you should be good for that freebie upgrade...maschinelf wrote:Apologies if this has been asked before, though afaict related questions have been asked but not this specific one.

I am on Cubase 8 Pro at the moment. If I buy the £40 upgrade to 8.5 and I'm correct in thinking I will be entitled to Cubase 9 upgrade if I register 8.5 once 9 is released?

You're largely right - but don't get confused; its the product activation that's important, not registering it. These are two different things. Read back in the thread for detail.dickiefunk wrote:I am on Cubase 8 Pro at the moment. But yes, if you activate your v8.5 upgrade at the time of Cubase Pro 9 release, then you will be eligible for a freebie upgrade to that.
