Yeah the 64-bit AU plug-in crashes constantly so I guess I'll need to skip this one too.

Hi all, made a few changes to my little ditty. I have changed the dymanics a bit to emphasize the lead sound more, but ... sadly moved from DR 11 to DR 8, but hopefully you still get a good feeling of a range of dynamics.

The other big change is I have edited my final run down to the end, moved it up a register as well so it's a bit more of an ending - before being lower down it was a bit of a whimper.

I'll re-post here as it's quite a bit different - if I needn't re-post the tune, BJ, let me know and I can edit this post.

Please please enjoy,

The Spire demo is just better mixed, but on plain sound side, Synth1 doesn't have to hide behind Spire. ;)

I think this is my first ever entry in the OSC, which is funny after wasting an eternity on this forum :D

Can i remake my Synthmaster 2016 competitor to Synth1 racer too or it is forbiden ? in a mood for sound design but not for songwriting -if it is possible just to replace Synthmaster sounds with Synth1 and some sound design ?

All entries have to be original and not done for any other competition.

Ok understood paragraph X 'Your entry must be composed specifically for this contest' - maybe will write few parts Synth1 worth the extra time :)

But as a whole wouldn't it be an original creation? Never before had they composed X musical pattern with instrument Synth1 and submitted it for competition. It is a new thing that didn't exist prior to them creating that particular combination.

Where is the line between original and previous form? How much variance does there need to be?

If I use an arp pattern of 16th notes consisting of D3, F#3, A3 and D4 this month can I never ever use that pattern again in an OSC submission using a different VSTi?
Or crazier still since I used a kick drum playing on the 1/4 note in 4/4 @ 128bpm last month can I never use that pattern at that speed again since it would not be original?

And how in general could this rule be investigated and enforced?
In this particular instance, yes the "inspiration" track is known because VELLISLAV stated their intentions.

But how would a person of authority know if in September I wrote most of the musical ideas for my November submission using Tunefish4 and then in November decided to revisit them using OXD-B? (for the record I did not, but just showing the the rule really isn't readily enforceable because it is really difficult/impossible to investigate if the "inspiration" track is not publically published).

I would like further clarity on this because I have considered revisiting some previous musical ideas I have had in past OSC submissions once my skill level improves enough to perhaps pull the ideas off in a future competition.

LMAO. You know, I asked this same question quite a while back in almost the exact same way.

So let me give it to you straight.

Nobody is going to know if you wrote a song in 1992 and decided to use it for this competition, especially if there are no signs of that song anywhere online. It's YOUR conscience and YOU have to live with it. That's all I'm going to say on that subject.

As for things like chord progressions, drum patterns or whatever, they are not songs. How many songs use the chord progression C Am F G?

Oh wait, let's find out.

Bottom Line: Use some common sense and, if you care, just be honest with this whole thing.

And with that, I'm done.

I am constantly drafting out musical ideas and sketches - my latest submission certainly has some of its roots way back at the beginning of November. But of course, some ideas do not a tune make! It all comes together after many nights sleep! Certain chord sequences and even harmonies are pretty much "stock items" in any composers head.

I find the sound design is also another thing running around in my head. I think the lead sound this time, a stringed instrument, probably started off life as a piano track, but just HAD to be the string lead (again!) after running the melodic lines around my head for a bit - a percussive instrument just wasn't right - wrong "feel".

Just a small insight into my weird and if not a little bit "mad" head!

You know, I really really wish people would stop telling me that in discussions about rules in this competition.

And Wags this is not directed specifically at you as a person or artist, you just happened to say the triggering phrase "common sense" at me this time. :tu:

Use common sense is a completely empty useless answer to someone asking a question. It is a cop-out. I've found it is an answer thrown up when a question is either too hard or too complex to answer completely.

Just because something is common it does not mean it is universal.
It's common for Americans to own pick-up trucks. But that does not mean that every American owns a pick-up truck or even knows how to drive one. Yet you want to answer "just throw it in the back of your pick-up, that's just common sense" when asked how to get a couch across town. That is a sure helpful answer to someone who only owns a bicycle. :bang:
And yes I know there are probably YouTube videos out there showing a person on a bicycle (missing 1 of the 2 wheels) packing 3 couches, 15 people and a cow across town, that is not the point.

So telling me to use common sense is basically telling me to keep wandering around in the dark and if you happen to cross that cliff edge that we refuse to tell you about, the landing (disqualification) will indicate to you where the edge(rule) was.
Only because I am confident I will not be contention for the first prize I have actually desired (the excellent artwork  ) I will not rue learning the rules the hard way.

Aside from discussion about how to make our music stuff i need to say that THIS COMPETITION IS GREAT OPPORTUNITY - learned so many things here ,mostly how much i sucks :) i'm sorry if i start some negative topic or something - it is always cool to have fresh ideas and to bring something new to the music world ,but it happens sometimes not to have necessary conditions fo that.Glad if u understand my imaginary english :)Many words in my language sounds the same like in english but mean something else - Glad in bulgarian mean Hunger ,sun mean dream, sin mean blue ...so if u use only the words with analogy in english you speak bulgarian but didn't say anything hahaha - what is common between honest politicians and extraterrestrials? Everybody have heard about them but nobody ever seen one hahahhaa :):):)
