Thanks for your suggestions. I don't have a dedicated saturation plugin yet. Im looking for something to complement bx_console SSL channel strip (got it some days ago).

I'd really like to use airwindows stuff, but don't want to build complicated plugin chains per channel.

Well, Softube Analog Harmonics if you need a good sounding versatile straight up saturation.
Among my other favourites are Fuse Audio VPRE-2C, Voxengo Warmifier and VariSaturator and WavesFactory Spectre.

If i had to pick one it would be Spectre tho. Thankfully i don't cause i love em all

Thanks. Checked Fuse Audio VPRE-2C and it sound very nice. But that wouldn't work per channel due to high cpu demands i think.

fun fact: what i really dig about the VariSaturator is the digital part aka waveshaper which is said to be not too dissimilar sounding to the still ubiquitous Sonnox Inflator.
I don't own either though since i think i can still make do with the stuff i already own.
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

There is this option: "zero latency" .. you must turn that OFF, it is tied to over-sampling, don't forget re-open session in order for the option to take effect.

reduces aliasing by quite a bit!
I would like to see in the future a selectable number for the over-sampling both for online and offline.

i was under the impression the inflator was 3 band instead of 2 - but apart from that it seems to be a simple waveshaper with no oversampling, i got pretty close to nulling it with cableguys waveshapercm (in broadband mode) - but i really like the 3 band mode and nothing can reproduce that yet. if only sonnox stuff didn't have such annoying ilok rules :(

Post

i hear you.
Sonnox is the only company i need to plug in an ilok dongle for. hence i don't use them anymore.
hence i support companies like Kazrog :D

I 'threw away' (gave away) my iLok dongle with PT11.
I only use software iLok stuff now.

so far so good - i was a very strong opponent for a while.
Then Gullfoss forced me to use it. And it opened a world of wonderful plugins to me

But i'm no way in hell using the dongle

I wonder if anyone has compared this to some of the newer UAD "mixing console" saturation in Luna?

Out of all the saturators I have, True Iron often sounds the best (I don't have a fancy saturator such as Fabfilter's Saturn). What I particularly like how True Iron adds girth to the lows while brightening up the whole mix. I tend to use it with Crush off, Amount set lower (e.g., no more than 7), 5 is the default which is closest to the saturation added by emulated transformers, and the Mix on max. I tend to saturate group bus or individual tracks rather than the mix bus so that I have more control over how much and what type for each instrument group. When bouncing or mastering disable zero-latency to enable over-sampling to minimize aliasing. Interesting when first using True Iron, I often couldn't hear what it was doing without pushing the amount to the extreme. Now after some time of using the plugin, my listening has improved to where I can notice subtle changes at lower levels. As a side note, I also really like Voxengo's saturation plugins that I have demoed.

I am in your previous position cuz i still can't hear subtle changes yet. But, I hear Saturn saturation. Even with Saturn, True Iron is still a very quick solution while you're producing. Thanks for the tips too

I also struggle to hear a big difference when I gain match it. In the videos I saw it was easy to hear, because no one matched the output, but when u match it the difference feels not as impactful as I thought it would be, reading all that praise for this plugin

This is me as well. I've read all this forum because of that, what other have experienced. I watched a few minutes of the WhiteSea video but he does not gain match and calls it a "wow".

Maybe I need to listen more. But then what is the purpose if only a trained sound person can hear the difference.

I couldnt hear fk all off youtube tbh

But I have it and I can hear the difference on my monitors.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

I can't really hear it unless I push it hard and since it's not easy to bypass multiple plugins in Bitwig/Live, it's difficult to hear how it affects the mix as a whole with it on multiple channels. I could probably sell it on now and not miss it.
Always Read the Manual!
