yup. zero help files. but, hey it does actually work.

as far as i know, AUv3 only saw any real life on iOS.jancivil wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 3:05 pm
I would think this is something for AU 3, but I haven't researched it.
this should make things interesting:

I will believe that when i see it. Seems like a lot of hot air to me. At least i can't really imagine that.Ploki wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 6:47 pm this should make things interesting:

Really wished you could pin such stories somewhere, and point at them when the time has come, and they all turned out to be bogus.

well there was a PPC/Intel transition...chk071 wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 7:13 pmI will believe that when i see it. Seems like a lot of hot air to me. At least i can't really imagine that.Ploki wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 6:47 pm this should make things interesting:

and if geekbench scores are any indication at all, iPad Pro lifts serious weight.

How much weight compared to the fastest laptops, or desktop computers?
Just read a bit about that. Looks like Geekbench isn't the best benchmark to measure x86 CPU's anyway, so, no wonder it does extraordinary well there.

The next transition will be OSX to ---> I-OS.Ploki wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 7:14 pm well there was a PPC/Intel transition...

So user of Apple Logic should be prepared to work on a fine tiny small
display in the future! Good eyeglasses will become more important!

I haven't found anything that would really measure performance cross-platform, but Geekbench was actually developed for x86..chk071 wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 7:21 pm How much weight compared to the fastest laptops, or desktop computers?

nah, i don't think they will do that.enroe wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 7:31 pmThe next transition will be OSX to ---> I-OS.Ploki wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 7:14 pm well there was a PPC/Intel transition...

Unfortunately, i can't find a comparable article in English... this is from a (very respected) German site: https://www.computerbase.de/2018-11/gee ... pple-a12x/ (maybe you can use Google translator)
Also, i would never, i mean, never, judge a processor speed on a single benchmark. They all measure differently.

for what it's worth, geekbench scores roughly translate to logic trackcount benchmark. (not perfectly, but it's in the ballpark)chk071 wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 7:55 pm Unfortunately, i can't find a comparable article in English... this is from a (very respected) German site: https://www.computerbase.de/2018-11/gee ... pple-a12x/ (maybe you can use Google translator)

Also the benchmark is more in the 13" i5 vicinity (which is also cooled passively when under light load)
The issue with geekbench is that it doesn't show performance well for extended periods of time, which is probably where iPad Pro as a passively cooled device would wear down very very quickly.
But still, i have to wonder what would happen to an A12X chip with proper cooling.

Sure, but, that's the thing, innit? The ARM chips are designed with low power consumption in mind, while, in high performance devices, you want the maximum performance, with only secondary concerns regarding power consumption.Ploki wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 8:08 pmfor what it's worth, geekbench scores roughly translate to logic trackcount benchmark. Anyway, i don't want to play prophet. All that i want to say is that i can't imagine Apple switching to a mobile CPU manufacturer, when they could have so much more performance for their expensive machines.

well, you'd think that if that was the case, they'd have provided decent cooling for the hexacores. all chips pretty much perform identically, being limited by the thermal envelope of the enclosure.chk071 wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 8:14 pm

The Mini is decent, but with just a little bigger fan and vent, it could probably turbo to at least 4GHz instead of 3.5GHz where it coasts now.

In my experience it's near perfect. Geekbench scores for my laptop VS desktop pair perfectly with track counts. Same is true every time I've upgraded computers, the scores pair with track counts.Ploki wrote: Sat Feb 23, 2019 8:08 pm for what it's worth, geekbench scores roughly translate to logic trackcount benchmark. Geekbench can't tell you if Apple or some other manufacturer messes up and uses bad components, or intel screws up their laptop chips by building in a throttle down that cause issues, but it gives a pretty good estimate of what you can expect out of a computer compared to others.

Basically those who work professional would choose what they use now. Others might not use what they want to use because of price, politics, copy protection, upgrade policy etc...
I use Bitwig because of its MPE strength and it inspires me...
I use Ardour instead of Protools, because Avid sucks and breaks intentionally on almost every OS upgrade. Ardour has the better wave form display, but I am so used to the ProTools workflow. Though I only get hands on it for client work and don‘t own it myself...
