Are you still using 32-bit plugins on PC?

creating a 32bit plugin isn't not much more work, the probs come with what it's used with
redundant OS's and ancient hosts
spending time supporting such a small minority just isn't good business

Yeah, agreed.Teksonik wrote: Wed May 06, 2020 8:28 pm I agree. I think that's the whole point of the Poll. Is it financially viable to keep working on and supporting 32 bit plugins?
Like I said my gut feeling says no but I don't have all the information needed to say for sure one way or the other.
At the time of this post 82% say they don't need 32 bit plugins. But does that mean 18% would refuse to buy a plugin that's 64 bit only and thereby give a developer 18% more sales ? I think the distinction between "I use 32 bit plugins" and "I can't buy a plugin unless it's 32 bit" needs to be clarified.
And I just don't buy it that anyone who's running a 32-bit OS and/or DAW is going to be buying new plugins. They are cheap bastards, to say the least. And the cheapest customers are also the most demanding. Funny how that works.
The whole point is you can't please everyone, so you should just focus on the ones who are actually paying your bills. Give those customers the best products you can by focusing your resources on that, and not dividing your time and attention on obsolete technologies with no value just to make some cheapskate running Cool Edit Pro happy.

Same here, VST3 all the way for me, seem to be more optimized and load quicker. But V Station always been solid as a rock for me ?chk071 wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 6:56 pmThat's really not true (anymore). I use VST3 with all the plugins which are available in VST3, and, I don't see any difference in terms of stability. Exceptions like V-Station which has been buggy since forever (regardless of VST2 or VST3) just prove the rule.Debutante wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 6:42 pm What I would like to keep is VST 2.4 because vst3 seems very unstable so please don't stop making them because they've been outmoded

It's the doubling of testing time and support that costs you.
That's the part of the iceberg that no one sees.

My take on it: if you have a 32-bit version, leave it available as a download for those who need it, bugfix it if you can do so without a ton of dev time, otherwise focus on 64-bit. People may still use 32-bit things, but for the most part I doubt old 32-bit DAWs are undergoing anything more than bugfix releases, if that, so if you have a stable 32-bit version already that probably will satisfy most setups. Honestly now I'm usually wishing a 32-bit plugin was available as a 64-bit version than the other way around.

From memory: The voices LED's in the bottom left don't work (don't work in the VST2 either, I think...), the MIDI LED doesn't work, the LFO speed LED's don't work, and, I remember there was something with the arp syncing not working as well.LeVzi wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 7:20 amSame here, VST3 all the way for me, seem to be more optimized and load quicker. Especially the LED thing is something which the developers really should have noticed.

Do all DAW's even support VST3? Pretty sure Ableton does not.LeVzi wrote: Thu May 07, 2020 7:20 amSame here, VST3 all the way for me, seem to be more optimized and load quicker. VST2.4 is discontinued. The SDK only ships with VST3 support now.
I would back away slowly from any DAW that doesn't support VST3 in the year 2020.

It's 2020. Why still use a Stradivarius?

Because some people want their setup to be future proof? 32 bit is as good as dead now, with many DAW's no longer supporting it.
Ofcourse if you're happy with your current setup and never update your OS or DAW, then you can keep using 32 bit plugins forever. Just don't expect devs to keep making 32 bit versions of their new plugins forever.

Because it sounds great. Can't say that 32-bit sounds great.

Does it only work with a 32bit bow?
your analogy needs work

It is unlikely you're going to show up for rehearsals one day to discover your Stradivarius is incompatible with the rest of the string section and won't play the latest concerto.
