Nexus 3 competitors?

I was searching for some videos of Nexus3 since there is no demo to try out. And I found this video where they go through the free factory sounds one by one. In the info text it says the factory sounds many are/sound the same - I was first very sceptical since people usually praise Nexus3 + it's sounds. But after a while listening the video it was clear most of the sounds actually do sound the same:


Although maybe very repetitive, I still think the sound is very rich + nice.
And like they say in the video's comments: you can edit the arps + effects and this way alter the sounds (and also edit the sound's layers). But still, I was hoping the sounds to be more versatile right from the box without much of tweaking. After all, it's not a "synth" Not sure if the similarity to the sounds come from having similar effects on them (it sounded maybe like they had same reverb + delay going on)?

My question would be: can I delete some of the factory sounds if I want to save space?

The topic is interesting and i don't know why people need to turn it into witch hunt,when everybody has taste and opinion and when it comes to the sound it's always subjective.Nexus can't be bad,just because most samples comes from best soft and hardware existing,but it's totally different when it comes to originality and dynamic of the sound,samples are always more static than live mixing - like photos and movies and no matter what arguments somebody could find,that's sonic reality.Cheers

In Nexus2 it was possible to delete factory presets. In Nexus3 I'm not sure anymore (deleting is possible but) as the cloud do check your expansions for updates and fix them if broken (missing files) at least in my case.
However it's totally possible to save your own edited sounds as user presets. I have plenty of them saved and in use. For Nexus2 there were even third party sound designers offering edited Nexus presets mainly for the trap genre If remember it correctly.

Saving Presets
You can save any preset as your own version to be recalled at any time. Simply load a preset and adjust it as you wish. In the top info bar, press the 3-dot button and select "save preset".

The preset is saved to the "User presets" folder in the browser (at the bottom of the folder list). It retains the category filter.

You can rename/delete a saved preset by selecting the foler "User presets" folder, right-clicking on the preset, and selecting the desired option.

1. Do not forget from when the factory sounds are... (2007)
This might not be our nowadays taste for genre music...

2. I don´t find them sounding all the same except the alternative version which got the same name just with an A or B or a 2 afterwards...
Other than that they have imho at least the same variety like every factory soundset I´ve ever heard... if it´s the synth part of Kontakt, Korg M1 the factory sounds of Sylenth...etc...

I personally would guess from the +-760 presets there are at least 500 unique sounds (+ the free expansions Nexus come with)... not too bad imho

I am not sure how much space you would be saving by deleting the patches you don't like, assuming you could in the first place. Also I am not sure if playing just one note for each patch and quickly moving on if you are doing the patches any justice. Of course you do expect some to sound similar, but playing one note at a time and moving on I think unfairly amplifies/distorts that.

Just favourite the patches that you like (which is what I do with my synths) and so when I am working on projects which always have short deadlines for me, I go straight to the favourite patches.

This topic makes me smile a lot,especially the thumbs down like in kids garden :)My friendly advice is don't underestimate any different opinion and taste,learn how can you make your composition and mix better,there is tons of amazing ideas for new sounds around,famous sounds made decades ago aren't so interesting any more :)Cheers

This is because you and some others are completely missing the point here...

Yes, Nexus isn´t the poor man´s toy... it takes a bit of money to stay "Up to date" soundwise with new expansions... it´s the same for someone making orchestral music on a professionel level... this costs a bit of money...
And yes, it´s more wise to deep into sound design and learn how to make these sounds yourself...but not everybody is interested in this and sometimes you just want to have these sounds right at your fingertips without making your hands dirty and loose a lot of time...

Nevertheless there aren´t many alternatives for someone who wants quickly to use exact these type of sounds out of the box without this knowledge or interest for sound design...
These type of sounds usually take a bit of layering (which isn´t possible with most synths), the right automation to get it sound right and the right post treatment via fx...
This is the same topic what made all the rompler workstations of the 90´s famous... and Nexus expansions are no different to the expansion cards of i.e. the Roland romplers...

For somebody who doesn´t want to dive into sounddesign but want to have these sounds on a professionel level, Nexus is (nearly) the only alternative...

Because all of that, there is simply no way to agree to your point of view imho...

Just post the links to these magical three sample packs for €32 including 128 Sounds for Sylenth plus additional sound banks for Spire and "allllllllll" the midi files. As you said we Nexus users aren't used to that and don't know any sample packs for this amount of money, wich offers that amount of euphony? So please be manly enough and enlighten us oh mighty bargain hunter.

It seems you're learning, I'm the king bargain hunter, and if you'll keep on learning, you'll find treasures like me! But it's not magic, meanwhile especially mainstream genres like festival Bigroom EDM, all Trance genres, Trap ... are available everywhere! And for that sounds you can use endless VST synths and don't need Nexus. The problem with Nexus is that all expansions cost the same, except the legacy ones. And some expansions are worth 65 Euro, for example their really great "Hollywood series", but most of the others aren't!

Well, this time I will praise Nexus3! I'm working on a remix at the moment and the original template is made with the "Hollywood" expansions and a choir expansion for Kontakt. And it sounds really like a full orchestra!

So, I'm not a "Nexus hater"! Nexus is an amazing plugin, especially the Nexus3 upgrade is really worth the money, every Nexus2 user should upgrade! But they need better expansions in some other genres for 65 Euro!

I know, I hear ya but you could say about anything of value. Hence, my dilemma
