I purchased it directly on the Lenovo website during nighttime (best deals then - at least back then) and it was like ~1000€ instead of ~1400, so really not super-expensive at all. (I did install a second 1TB HD and doubled up the RAM to 32GB later on though, so it was ~1200 in total.)
I was thinking of investing in a Mac Mini (M2). But then again, I've been a Windows user all my life. And for the price of a Mac Mini + accessories, I could get a very well built Windows Laptop that I could carry anywhere. Oh well, I could do both once I'm rich, for now, all hail freeze track option :P
When I was into purchasing a new machine, I was seriously looking into the (then new) M1 Airbooks, but in the end decided against it because of the limited RAM and diskspace - plus I hate the guts of Apple.

I am quite happy with my somewhat clunky but very sturdy Legion 5 with its 32GB, 2TB and RTX2060 , which had cost me about the same as an Airbook with 8gb and (I think) 128gb plus external 6TB (or so) would have.

And the next machine I'll buy will most probably be an Intel equipped Windows Laptop - but if it'll be an ARM OS after all, then it will certainly run on a Nuvia chip, not an Apple one.

Having said that: one could certainly purchase an iPad Pro with a good cloud subscription (Google comes to mind) and be done with it. But that would of course require a DAW/plugins switch. I seriously have considered this a few times (my laptops 300W power-supply weighs more than a whole iPad) but wasn't quite ready for that kind of commitment/cut.

But yeah, I wouldn't think of a non-mobile solution at all anymore. My studio is kind of an attic room two stories above our flat and right above the bedroom of the neighbour who lives one story up. When she's not away (she always informs me) it's an absolute no-go to do much of anything there after 10:00-11:00, so our kitchen is a much better place then - and that is just one advantage of having a mobile solution. There's many more, especially since I use my laptop for A LOT of all different kinds of stuff.

I bit. Got Sunset Sound, Fame, Farm Stone, Leslie and a Tascam. After a day of various trials I'd have to say I'll be using these a lot.

That's a great choice certainly. Btw.: especially the plate in the Fame is absolutely wonderful.

The TR Tape Machines need an eco mode that reduces oversampling to save CPU use during mixing, and a parameter link between instances so you can change the tape type and IPS for all instances at once.

Of course, neither is likely to ever happen since IK is not known to add features to T-RackS plugins ever.

I'm not the biggest fan of Apple myself, but I do appreciate the Macbook a lot. It's very good, streamlined, built very well and performs. Although I do share the same opinion about the ram. 8gb ram on the base model, for the price they charge, is simply not good enough. 8gb, in 2023, like seriously? Also, the upgrade price on the storage and memory is insane.

Anyways, Apple just announced Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for iPad. So might be a good entry level setup. But I think it's subscription based and I'm not sure if you can buy it outright.

Oh, they did? The M2 powered iPads are really insanely powerful. So that should mean being able to run normal AUs in Logic on the iPad then. It basically should then also mean that you can run as many instances of the T-Racks tape plugins and most everything else as you like - plus Final Cut is a mighty video editor too.

Yes, 8gb doesn't seem like much indeed, but then again I don't think you can really compare it to X86 based machines - I've seen vids on youtube where they compared the first 8gb M1 machines with the 16gb ones for video-rendering and stuff and it didn't make that much of a difference. I think it's because the RAM sits directly on the CPU so it can be accessed really fast and the caching and prefetching to and from the (at least on the first models) really fast SSD seems to work rather well. But ARM has always been great in regards to memory access, so that's not really a surprise.

So that's VFM that is nigh impossible to beat then - damn, I still loathe them.

Yup, just last night. More dev's are gonna be porting their code to ios versions now, and it makes sense as well, to take advantage of this. Running Logic on a M2 iPad is gonna be mad.

Well, when I say 8gb ram, I mean, it could be an issue loading huge orchestral libraries. But the SSD is powerful enough and fast enough to almost make up for it, so it doesn't really matter that much. But still I'd have preferred atleast 16gb for peace of mind, lol.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you dislike them? :P
