Can anything compete with DIVA or Repro in 2020?!

Actually, no. He explicitly asked if what can compete with Diva and Repro and get that believable hardware sound. Not "analog hardware" sound.FapFilter wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 2:41 pm the OP excplicitly asked if there are other VSTi that can deliver “believable (analog) hardware sound as good as Diva and the Repros can“
Well... the whole question was pretty flawed to begin with, not to mention the synths he compared Diva or Repro with. So, I'd rather recommend spending some more time on the soft synth topic, than ask questions which don't make sense.

This is my list too. And OSCar from GForce. My absolute favorite for sound is and I totally hate the CPU hit, but if I need to use multiple instances which are supercharged with unison etc I commit and bounce to audio. I am slowly becoming a fan (not fanboy) of U-he products since the quality is undeniably great.zerocrossing wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 4:53 am The plugins that I feel do the best “analog” impersonation are...
Diva (though it fails at some of the more tricky stuff. Great for bread ‘n butter sounds with style)
Repro 1/5 (great, though the distortion algorithms alias a bit)
Legend. 8 voice Minimoog? Yes please.
bx_oberhausen. 8 voice SEM? Yes please.
Obsession. Might as well jump!
OB-Xa V. Might as well jump... with something that’s not quite as good as Obsession, but has more interesting features.
OP-XA II. More Oberheim! An oldie, but a goodie.
Oddity. Poly ARP Odessey. Mmmm.
Aalto. West cost style.
Buchla V. More west coast style.
XILS... all of them, but PolyKB and SynX are my favorites.

Also what 'flavor' of analog are we talking about? U-he might be at the top, but maybe one just prefers the sound of another particular synth.
Sometimes I use U-he synths, but for other times I use Roland Clouds 106 (or insert another synth here). It depends on the song I'm writing at the time.

Isn't an "accurate" emulation synonymous with a believable emulation? When you can't tell which is which, it means the developer has succeeded and there is nothing left to improve on.chk071 wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 2:46 pmActually, no. Great list and don't forget TAL-U-No LX. Gforce was the first to get analog emulation ITB right way back in 2002!JoaquinAce wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 3:02 pmThis is my list too. And OSCar from GForce. the point was, what softsynths have the same quality as diva and repro
as they are both analogue emulations it's implied that should be a consideration
so, you could say arturia obxa, or you could say opx pro.... whatever floats your boat
of course, you could pick a synth which isn't a direct emulation, but has a great vintage hardware sound
it's not about comparing one synth with another

I'm sure these have all been mentioned, in which case consider any of them that have as another "vote". These are my favorite emulations
Repro
The Legend
Diva
bx_oberhausen
Obsession
TAL U NO LX
SynX (and other XILS synths)
I'm also liking the free MonoFury quite a bit, though I haven't delved deeply yet. Not sure if it sounds better than Korg MonoPoly on my iPhone.
Of all the ones on that list, I'd say I use Repro-1 the most often, and most often for a bassline. But that's a preference of mine for the sound of the synth in general. I think the others are all equal in their own ways (I do find I often have to "beef up" TAL, though).

Hey I'm just as bored as everyone else.
Anyway watching that comparison video above makes me wonder why anyone would want the hardware or the software.
Ok I'm going into the studio now and actually use synths instead of talking about them. Who is with me ?

Here's my take on all this. Forgive me if I'm repeating something somebody else said but after page 3 I got bored and stopped reading.
1. All of this is subjective. One man's Porsche is another man's Ford Pinto. Us what you like and be happy. It's doubtful anybody would change your mind anyway.
2. If you have no talent, I don't care what you use. It's going to sound like crap anyway. Having said that, in the hands of someone skilled, some synths do make your life a little easier such as synths that have layers vs synths that don't. So instead of having to duplicate tracks and make slight modifications to each track, you can do it all on one track. For me, that's a real time saver.
3. All that aside, assuming the OP is looking for analog emulations or analog type synths, this is my list of synths that I would use as much if not more than Diva and Repro-5
ImpOSCar 2
Legend
Korg MS 20
Obsession
PolyM
Reaktor 6 (there's tons of ensembles)
Repro-1
Softube Modular
Voltage Modular
Anyway, that's my 2 cents on all this.
Yes Vurt, I'm bored too.
And now I'm going back to making music.

Have you ever asked google something like "diva sound analog" or "diva vs minimoog" and so on? The Web is full of Discussions. Which one sounds best? Which one sounds like the Original - and in how far?
There´s really too much Time spent on these Questions.
I lately made that Descision - again. It took me 7 Minutes.
So far ...
... here a link to a German Discussion with a quiet critical Majority https://www.sequencer.de/synthesizer/th ... zen.93292/
