it sounds much betther, i realy would like to get the themes of the old skin as selection and 8 macro knobs, because its time killer to swicht through the layers, would be cool to map 3 filters on one macro etc.

I too was expecting something like 1/3 of the launch price (€ 49), or at least 1/3 of the RRP (which would be like € 56]. Pricing the upgrade at 50% of the launch price doesn't seem very appealing. Seems like manufacturers are pricing upgrades higher these days, which may indicate that they are having trouble finding new customerstatanka wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:26 pmTo be honest: 79 € was not what I expected after this announcementAll others will be able to upgrade to v3.x with a big discount.
The upgrade price will be fair and reasonable and will be annouced when it is released.![]()
I dont want to mention competitors in here but there are brand new synths out there from comparable (great) devellopers in deals starting from 49 €.........
And in general I am happy with Electra 2 as it is, so not really attractive for me and I thought it would be an instabuy.....

So to see if they do sound different, I created a small project (13 bars maybe 8 instances).
When I tried to open the Cubase Project using the E3 demo it opened as many tabs in my browser sending me to the buy page for each instance... wth.. same when I closed the project...
Is that expected behaviour Markus?

Anyway the results of my test is they do sound indeed different (they don't null either clearly), but E3 in the one project I tried it sounds like the sounds have more headroom, in that I can hear the individual parts clearer in the mix compared to E2.

While I like the sound quality of this synth, I find the full price ($169) way too pricey unfortunately......
I have Icarus - the sound quality, functionality etc is very good.
I will have to wait for a sale.

I closed my eyes and bought the upgrade. Though like many others I wished it was less expensive, Markus indeed has given lots of free updates and I want to do my part in continue supporting him and Tone2.

There was a new sounds 2.5 and 2.6 category/folder of presets.. Mine seemed to have disappeared on both mac and pc after this upgrade..
I guess they were moved into more regular sections?

Having an opinion about the pricing has nothing to do about being unfair towards Markus. You don't have to be anti artists on a budget to be pro developer.PietW. wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:33 pm Markus has provided us with so many updates to his plugins over the past few months.
This guy has to earn money too, so it's only natural that an update sometimes has to be paid for.
So stop being so extremely unfair to him. I would also like to point out that Markus actually wanted to stop updating his products completely and we should be grateful that he still invests time in making his plugins even better.
I personally think the Tone 2 synths deserve to be in the hands of millions of paying consumers but that's not happening at this price point.

if the sound is different the DLL or Electra 3 should be a new VST? cause otherwise this is not really backwards compatible.....

Hi Marus,
Some users say that Electra 3 sounds different from version 2. Possibly some sounds have a subtle difference that is only for the user and not for the one who will ever listen to the finished track. It is as subtle as the difference in sound between two Moog Model D's. Thanks Markus for the update! Electra is without a doubt one of the best sounding synthesizers on the market today.

oh noo - i hate when developers raise the vst version, than you need to have installed all the old versions to keep old projects running - i prefer to hear old projects in bether sound qualityCaine123 wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 4:37 pm if the sound is different the DLL or Electra 3 should be a new VST? cause otherwise this is not really backwards compatible.....

Some nice updates but far to expensive to update from 2 -3 (£80 GBP) so I will be passing.

it depends if it is really BETTER sounding... we need more A/B comparisons to judge, or anyone can judge for themselves then.sacer wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 5:47 pmoh noo - i hate when developers raise the vst version, than you need to have installed all the old versions to keep old projects running - i prefer to hear old projects in bether sound qualityCaine123 wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 4:37 pm if the sound is different the DLL or Electra 3 should be a new VST? cause otherwise this is not really backwards compatible.....

Q: Is Electra3 downward-compatible?
A: Yes
Q: Does it have a different sound?
A: It has a big number of subtle enhancements which make a rather big difference in a sum.
Electra3 sounds more clear, harmonic, transparent and punchy.
Q: Do I need to keep Electra2 when I install Electra3?
A: No
Q: Do my old song-projects still work?
A: Yes. They will sound better when you load them with Electra3. Your mix will be more clear and transparent.
Q: Do I need to care about this at all?
A: No. It 'just works' in practise. You do not have to adjust anything
Q: What exactly did you change?
A: You can find a detailed listing here: https://www.tone2.com/electra-update.html
Q: Why is this upgrade not available for free?
A: A lot more work went into it. Please do also note that we provide a lot more free updates than competing companies. For Electra2 we provided 12 big and free updates with lots of new features and enhancements over a period of 10(!) years. At some point we need to earn money to fund the future development.
The development of Electra3 will not stop with v3.0.
Q : Will there be Electra4?
A: No
Q: Why don't you provide small paid updates like for $19?
A: The fees and costs for the software distribution and taxes are so high that only $5 would be remaining. That's why we provide them for free.

Can you keep Electra 2 as it's own synth alongside 3.0 if I upgrade? I like vers. 2 enough that I'm hesitant in the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' sort of way.
