interesting, i would have thought 1 was the original.

i definately liked 3 the best, but not sure if jus because it feels slightly louder and more dynamic in most areas.

i really need more practice, i'm always listening too much ot the freq content.

i'm sure clip2 sounded a bit more dynamic though than 1, but much less than 3 (the most lively), or am i loosing it?!

... and yes, that's me singing.

Here is the whole song in case you get tired of the short loop. It's composed, recorded, mixed, mastered in about 4 hours in FL Studio, featuring an accoustic guitar that I found in a garbage bin. Ironically it was recorded by a stereo pair of Schoeps microphones (read: extremely expensive). :hihi: Language that I'm singing in is swedish. Basically the lyrics are about us f**king up the world big time.. :p

Remember the advice you gave in the "how to improve hip hop" thread? If not, read back. For several sentences in that post you made considerable sense. :-D

SPL 2050 EQ <3 <3

As for Mark77's ongoing quest... with that kind of guesswork, I wouldn't trade my dayjob into a career in music just yet :P

Hey bManic,
Sounds nice and immediate. I'm curious which Schoeps ypu used. The Collette system?

it? all analog sound does is change the eq levels and takes out some of the treble.
I can't be bothered to wade through nine pages of debate on this, so apologies if someone else has already pointed out that it's not true. The differences between analogue and digital recording have as much to do with dynamics as they do with EQ. A digital system faithfully captures the transient spikes in signals like snare drums or acoustic guitars. Analogue tape rounds them off, acting like a fast limiter -- hence the reason why so many engineers still record drums to tape, even if they later transfer them to hard disk. There are various plug-ins that you can use to try to recreate this limiting effect within a digital system. The only one I know of that sounds any good is Cranesong's Phoenix. If you don't believe that the effect is noticeable, try it.

I don't know what microphone body it is but it's the MK5 capsule (switched to cardioid). A stereo pair. For the vocals I used my Rode NTK trough a DBX 376 preamp into m-audio audiophile (hadn't yet bought the RME card at the time). This little tune should be an example to how NOT TO record stuff. It's as low-fi as it can get! :)

Cheers!

I'd be interested in a hi-fi example then...

Some day I'll re-record the song as it was intended. :)

Thanks! I use Genelec 8030a + 7050a subwoofer for monitoring (although my subwoofer is not in use at the moment due to angry neighbours!).

Just out of interest: IF the differences are so small no average listener would even notice, why bother?

For your own pleasure? I enjoy high fidelity audio, I get pleasure from it. Also, over and over again people seem to forget that improvements are cumulative, that is, many small improvements makes for a more substantial one in the end.

I agree on the cumulative effect, even did some tests myself a while ago.
Yet, my ears are too old to enjoy all of this.

I do however notice that there's no guitar amp simulation getting close to the real deal at all yet - so there might be something about analog behaviour (I won't call it "warmth" though).
