Countdown to Sample Tank 3, with 64 bit support

Ok, here's my solution on the player, which I think is a compromise that might benefit all. Make it free, with maybe 5 of the new sample sounds, but provide it with the new features in some limited form. That way IK can be wetting the appetites for ST3, while satisfying us users who have been waiting for native 64 bit compatibility far too long.

A player that is specifically for Sampletank's libraries that people already paid IK for can be presented at best as a point release. I'd be pissed if it was over 50.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:OK, so I see there are many that comment about a "player" version of just the engine to use only for the previous libraries in 64 bit environments. If that were the case, how much would you expect it to cost?

We don't really give a rat's behind what he does for others.
So to bring out the possibilites with ST3 for the "regular user" is most important IMO

I am against a free player, the demo is more than enough: try it and if you like it and need it, ok: go and buy it. The ones who don't are really breaking balls with their anti-IK, anti-Peter, anti-whatever posts.LAGinz wrote:Ok, here's my solution on the player, which I think is a compromise that might benefit all. I would have absolutely no issue having Keith Emerson do a video. I'll have to float that one, can't believe I haven't already. Thank you.Numanoid wrote: Why not go for Keith Emerson?

I would expect it to cost nothing for current owners of Sampletank, or any Sampletank libraries. Or do you subscribe to the 'The current owners of Sampletank and Sampletank libraries are the ONLY customers we will ever have, from now until the end of time' belief, which seems to plague so many developers?Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:OK, so I see there are many that comment about a "player" version of just the engine to use only for the previous libraries in 64 bit environments. I'd also like you to explain why it costs a ridiculous 7.99 euros to download each Sampletank expansion which you already own. Please tell us what your monthly server costs are, and how you justify this. You aren't making more money by doing this, you're losing customers. We all know how much servers cost nowadays...

Nothing in that video sounded any better than anything I can produce in Sampletank 2.5.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:I think he plays so fast that he played it before we got it to himbill45 wrote:Is there a video of Jordan Rudess playing sample tank 3? Off to you tube!
nothing on youtube.Seriously, though, here's the video
Hell, I have numerous combis that I knocked up in two minutes each that sound better than anything in that video.

You're against a free player - fine - let them release a free one and you can DONATE some money to them, while the rest of us loyal customers get a free player.mhog wrote: I am against a free player, the demo is more than enough: try it and if you like it and need it, ok: go and buy it. We want it because it will be 64 bit, that's it. It doesn't appear to offer anything that Sampletank 2.5 doesn't already have, just a new layout.
In order to use Sampletank 2.5 in Renoise I have to run Renoise as administrator. Sampletank is the ONLY VST I have that requires this.
We want a 64 bit version of the current Sampletank 2.5, that will do most of us fine, it was already a very capable product.
What exactly does ST3 do that ST2.5 doesn't? The synth page looks like it doesn't anything more than ST2.5 does. Admittedly this is from a few seconds on a video, so enlighten us. Why isn't there a demo video of a few hundred sounds, played by somebody who isn't Jordan Rudess?

maybe next time before you feel the need to reply at least take the time and read why people asked for a free player. you missed the point totally. epic fail.mhog wrote:I am against a free player, the demo is more than enough: try it and if you like it and need it, ok: go and buy it. Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

TBH, there aren't many features to limit wrt to ST2.5, right? From what I've seen the additional effects are the only actual new feature in ST3 if we leave the content library out. Or do you suggest to make the free player 32bit with a ST2.5 skin?LAGinz wrote:Make it free, with maybe 5 of the new sample sounds, but provide it with the new features in some limited form.
But yes, I, too, would like to see a tiered pricing strategy, like a free player with no content, a basic version with only 1/3rd of the content and a full version with the whole content or so. There are "in-app" purchases anyway, so I guess a free player wouldn't hurt in the long run.

With regards to the comments on Youtube under the Jordan Rudess video - did these people hear different audio to me?
"Amazing new sounds!! Thanks to IKM for the new astonishing SampleTank3 and to Jordan for his, as always, great demo!"
In what way were any of those sounds amazing? They could have been from ten different currently available VSTis.
They could have been from Sampletank 2.5, for that matter!
"I love it when software leaps ahead."
That sounds like a 'street teamer', somebody paid to hype up a product, who talks like that?
Then we have:
"SUPERB!!"
"Awesome!"
"This is sweet!"
Seriously - who writes a one word comment, or three word comments, about something like this? And only 2,140 views on the video.

Edit for clarity and since I didn't quote: @basslinemaster - if you made your case for not backing up with regard to redownload via support please let me know what your ticket number was and I can look into it. Otherwise, I think a lot of it boils down to this issue for you so let me know. I'm sure people do like Jordan Rudess and SampleTank 3 sounds quite a lot and we've had even more (and also genuine) positive response to it during and since NAMM.

It seems we're done suggesting prices in response to my original question? I'll wrap it up and send the info then, thanks.
