I'm curious. Can you tell me what you are using the filter for? Thanks.lnikj wrote:The resonances sound incredible Andy and the non-linearities give it a really organic feel. Can't wait to get my hands on your next beta!

Eh? What does anybody use filters for?Aloysius wrote:I'm curious. Can you tell me what you are using the filter for? Thanks.lnikj wrote:The resonances sound incredible Andy and the non-linearities give it a really organic feel. Can't wait to get my hands on your next beta!

I think you know what a filter like this is for, but in case you don't:Aloysius wrote:Which is?lnikj wrote:Eh? What does anybody use filters for?Aloysius wrote:I'm curious. Andy's filters sound better at these things to my ears than those built in to some of my synths.

Actually I think I've answered my own question. Would I be right in saying the first sound snippet on the wavs you uploaded are the raw source and audio there-after applying the filter?andy_cytomic wrote:I'm going to do a screengrab of a scope and spectrum display with a/b switching between the model and the breadboard through a range of settings like I did for the MS20 mk2 and Prodigy. Is this what you meant?MFXxx wrote:
Andy these sound absolutely incredible...this is going to be a killer plugin.
I'd be interested in listening to a/b (know you are busy) an original source for comparisson would be good for reference.
Keep up the great work...can't wait.
But your idea is probably better for most. Personally I preder my ears
Thanks

Thanks lnikj. So basically, it's just a better quality filter than the one's we've all used before. Low, high, band, sweep etc. Cheers!

Yes, but I am sure that other people find much more sophisticated ways of using it than me!Aloysius wrote:Thanks lnikj. So basically, it's just a better quality filter than the one's we've all used before. Low, high, band, sweep etc. Cheers!

Although there will be similarities between the Cascade SH filter and a Roland SH-2 there are also some major differences. I've not actually modelled the SH-2, I've built a custom cross between a Jupiter-8 and an SH-2. I made choices that I liked the sound of most for a filter that will process a wide variety of signals, the SH-2 I found started clipping too early with loud signals and the clipping varied too much with changes in resonance. I have kept diode clipping in the feedback path, which is on all the SH series synths from Roland, but not on the Jupiter / Juno series. I'll post a schematic of what I have modelled as well as my own A/B examples.ChiTown24 wrote:SH-2 filter you say ? finally I can post my own A v B comparison wavs, the kind you usually see in these emulation threads. whooptywoo!
In addition I'm not modelling the VCA section either, so any comparisons would only be as close as comparing a Juno 60 / Jupiter 8 / SH-101 with an SH-2.
Also watch out when sending audio into the SH-2 that part of the sound you are hearing is not clipping of the input buffer.

Awesome I will be definitely looking forward to this as a Drop owner. I have done some pretty cool stuff already with the 2 MS20 style filters already, so having some more tones to work with will be fun.andy_cytomic wrote:Although there will be similarities between the Cascade SH filter and a Roland SH-2 there are also some major differences. Any updates on the next build at all? Hanging for those CPU improvements as much as the new model
