Wow, what a fantastic update, thanks and kudos to everybody involved in the project. Surge is rapidly becoming the synth of choice in a lot of techno circles, it's great to see an open source project flourishing like this!

Arguable.

you can, that's what i do. just create a junction point from your VST3 directory to wherever you like. done, all of the stuff thinks it's installed and works from C: but is actually working from your other drive.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Thanks for the tip. I might actually do that, I already did that with my Waves plugins, which also installed by default to a folder on the C: drive.
With junction point you mean a symbolic link right?

With this release (on windows) we’ve made surge fully portable. So you’d an put your VST3 wherever and if you put the data and user folders next to it, surge will use those.
C:\program filescommon\vst3 and c:\programdata\surge are the defaults but they can all be changed just by moving files around post install.
All in the manual under the “installing” section. You need 1.7.0 (released 3 hours ago) for that feature to work.
If someone here knows innosetup well and would like to make it so you can install to a chosen location at install time, we’re totally open to help!
Thanks

yes, except they're called "directory junctions" in Windows speakchk071 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 2:47 pm Thanks for the tip. I might actually do that, I already did that with my Waves plugins, which also installed by default to a folder on the C: drive.

or rather, i should say, i believe softlinks (aka symbolic links) and hardlinks (aka, well, hardlinks) cannot cross filesystem boundaries (as in, refer to something on another drive), while a junction link can. or something to that effect. i don't remember why, but you're supposed to use the "mklink /J" command, not just "mklink".

I don't know it "well" but i've used it before and it's pretty easy to use and the samples are OK for most things, so it shouldn't be much trouble to figure it outbaconpaul wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 3:18 pm If someone here knows innosetup well and would like to make it so you can install to a chosen location at install time, we’re totally open to help!

Cool. Well we welcome developer who want to help! Probably best to hop into slack if you want to push but it’s all open source for you to take a look and try and improve. (I’m a mac user so my understanding of what a modern windows user wants is ... limited. EvilDragon has improved thigns a lot with 170 but sure there’s more we can do)Burillo wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 5:52 pmI don't know it "well" but i've used it before and it's pretty easy to use and the samples are OK for most things, so it shouldn't be much trouble to figure it outbaconpaul wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 3:18 pm If someone here knows innosetup well and would like to make it so you can install to a chosen location at install time, we’re totally open to help!

I'd love to be able to select colors other than the orange/blue...
although I feel like it's nit-picking
at your successful project
Synth1 has that alpha-numeric entry to modify
background, text, and a highlite...that would be
a great Surge capability!
Cheers

Do menu/skins/Surge Dark
Every color and graphic is now runtime pickable
Still a bit of work to make your own skin. but not impossible.

So there's no VST2 now? That's a pity as I use this in Komplete Kontrol which doesn't support other formats. Is it possible to install this but keep the earlier version VST2 running as well?
