I don't understand the assumption that Apple should have bought Camel Audio...

It's not an assumption, it's one working hypothesis that could fit the events we see.Tricky-Loops wrote:I don't understand the assumption that Apple should have bought Camel Audio...
Not the only one though. Not enough facts.
You're assuming now!Tricky-Loops wrote:I assume personal/financial problems as reason...
You saw the facts about their company accounts filed on the 4th December?
Doesn't rule it out, but the bank balance seemed healthy enough.

I can't believe I'm just now hearing about this. Sad news. I just hope the developers can get back on their feet doing what they do best. Here's hoping this sets the stage for a new company with even bigger ambitions and a brighter future

After this has closed down the only people with any interest would bevalerian_777 wrote:I wouldn't do that. There is a reason for license transfer. Who give you the guarantee that the buyer is not a kind of supplier and your software (which can be traced back to you maybe) ends on every torrent?
1 Collectors of crap, no "Look what we have done" crew of crackers will give a flying f**k about some discontinued software.
2 Developers of said discontinued software who will not give a flying f**k about some torrents if they have been destroyed financially from putting it out there and are now just closing up shop with no explanation and never want to hear about said software again (unlikely by the way), or have sold their IP on, and have made so much money they don't even give a f**k about anything ever again (Most likely)
3 Somebody desperate because they have lost their back ups and really need to download and get rid of those last few tracks using these plugins.
Lets get one thing straight, no matter how the high and mighty around here type garbage upon garbage, CameAudio where never your friends, they where never a 'Stand up company' more than any other company, and they would have sold their collective left b*llock if it set them up for life.
This is business, nothing more, and if you are a business man with kids and somebody offers you the chance to be not only set for life but your kids set for life, you quite literally rip their hand off, and nobody but nobody with their high and mighty holier than though attitudes in this thread would do any different whatsoever

I can backup everything except for the factory preset file, it keeps failing with an error message.

That would be typical of a merger or buyout. We will see.HideawayStudio wrote:Yes but the change of Ts & Cs has most definitely occurred and the timing is curious (1 year to the end of the support period).

What's wrong with me ? Nothing. What's wrong with you, you're acting like a jackass ?Numanoid wrote:What is wrong with you.Daags wrote:Would be interesting if you, or anyone else interested, tried this: change all personal info to something temporary. Then log out of account. Log back in. (re)download the installers, and see if the installer is still using your original personal info or the new info.
imo the biggest dirtbag move here, which I hope doesn't happen, will be if they block transfers or if they don't facilitate transfers in such a way that your entire personal info isn't also embedded in the transfer.
Any kind of blackout, is that green light for looting?
The site has been "down" for less than two days. For gods sake, have some patience.
I see so many posts how well Camel Audio was liked and how they were good guys, but all that seems forgotten in an instant, everybody is only thinking about how to get most out of it for themselves.
You deleted the quote to which I was replying. The user TheoM was speaking of license transfers, something he feels legally entitled to do, and I would agree - at least ethically and morally. And since Camel Audio have currently removed the requisite web forms to facililitate transfers (something I have expressely stated several times that could be a technical glitch, or a policy that could be reversed), TheoM stated how he might go about selling/transferring his account instead. Something that is quite common with the likes of Korg, and Image Line (if I'm not mistaken), and even the somewhat defunct Vember Audio (again if I'm not mistaken) - there are other good examples of account transfers I'm sure, in lieu of bona fide license transfers. Do you make it your business to join those sale threads to call the parties involved "looters" ? ... that you would misrepresent this procedure as looting, or indeed my reply to TheoM as encouraging looting is indicative of your profound jackassery. Did it not occur to you that the procedure could also be taken as a warning ? to highlight that despite TheoM's idea of making his account transferable, his installers would still be watermarked with original details ? Of course - it's OK for you to assume the worst of someone whilst simultaneously accusing them of doing the same.
same goes for the one or two plebs who thumbs-upped your reply, suggesting I'm suffering from an excessive sense of entitlement.
to provide context, I've provided TheoM's original post below - the one to which I was replying.
TheoM wrote: Some interesting info. In my camel account, i can change name, phone number, email, password, *absolutely everything*. So i could put a temp password, give that to a buyer, then they change it and ALL the details to their own personal ones. I would never myself be able to access the account again, and I won't download anything if i give a sale a trial and see if there is any interest. If not, then i will do my own backup. (person can see in the acc last time i downloaded).
so i don't see any issue with selling my account to one person, I haven't downloaded the stuff for ages and it's not even installed any more.
I can clearly say downloads will not be available after July 7, and that should make it ok shouldn't it? The only caveat is they will have to have everything, space, alchemy, massive bank, and all alchemy banks. Will give it some thought i guess.
Anyway I am under the impression that i am governed by the EULA that was existing when i bought everything, with the last purchase being over a year ago, so IMO it's not illegal as such to sell.

It seems likely that the owners saw the sales returns diminishing and with Windows 10 on the horizon probably figured it was time to step away from the table before claims of incompatibility & a flood of refund requests & update demands started coming in.Tricky-Loops wrote:I don't understand the assumption that Apple should have bought Camel Audio...

The Apple buyout is just a bizarre fantasy many are humoring, likely due to ignorance of real world business affairs.

Agreed. I have been locked out before because I forgot to disconnect from a VPN first.aMUSEd wrote:Seriously I would be very careful about this (ethical issues aside). Camel have always had pretty tight automatic security in place leading to temp lockouts from accounts if the system detects what appears to be unauthorised access (including access from unknown IPs). Up to now it was always possible to drop an email to their support to get back in again when that happened - but now people may find it harder to get a response. I would not advise anyone to try spoofing their systems right now or you may find yourselves locked out - this would not be Camel's fault but your own.
Theo - again, ethical issues notwithstanding - you will be screaming blue murder if you manage to lock yourself out of your account and can't get back in. You could sell to somebody in a different country and then they might log in, something that will probably be flagged instantly.
