Wow. You've been here nearly two whole years and you're trying to tell us all what should be discussed and where. Congratulations. I'll give you a clue, though; for well over half a decade longer than you've been here the 'hosts' forum has been considered the appropriate place for discussion of Reason. Hence the bit I quoted. Hosts (Sequencers, DAWs, Audio Editors, etc.)

You go ahead and play selective/naive though. But the 'why is this in hosts' troll has been done by far more amusing people.

Stop squabbling lol, I think it does have a place in here as it does host the reason rack and is a DAW/Host and also people need to realise it doesn't host 3rd party effects/insts so they don't buy it and then feel let down but Record should implement VST compatiblity, then it would be a complete DAW for reason lovers.

Just to correct one point - Record is NOT a Rewire host.

Still perfectly happy to discuss it on the "hosts" forum though. Reason has been discussed here always and is after all one of the best selling and most widely used pieces of music sequencing software. I'm sure that Record will equally be very successful, and of course people here are going to be interested in discussing it.

A DAW doesn't need to support vst's to be a DAW (It doesn't even require Midi) :P

DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation so since Record supports Audio it is a DAW :box:

For some reason i believe that Record is their biggest lowdown. I am sure they won't say it official but i really doubt that Record will be successful as Reason. Not even by half. Totally missed point! :?

Certainly agree that the marketing aims are odd... I *may* buy this because its a great upgrade to Reason, but I can't really imagine a non-Reason user wanting it. In other words, the guitarist who want to get their first recording software, as per the Propellerhead spiel... Record is definitely not the best option for those buyers imho.

Post

Indeed. I can't begin to understand the aim of Record outside of the context of a hardcore Reason user.

I mean, it's not even particularly cheap!

It's a weird one, that's for sure.

think of it in the context of someone who uses one of those 4/8/12/whatever multi-track hardware boxes; portastudios, basically.

seriously; not everyone in the world who wants to record something knows or cares what a 'plugin' is. there's a whole world of people for whom 'does what it says on the tin' is enough.

But for €299?

You could buy a decent digital portastudio for that, or a pretty OK soundcard and some free software...

Reason and Record is 3rd party compatible. If you have a Line 6 interface with Pod Farm you can use your presets within the Record Rack.
You will be able to use your reason racks within record for audio files.
As they say on Props website Record Blog is to think of Record as guitars, vocals, recording, music production and mixing.
Record is also meant to enhance the Reason experience.
I think that those who already legally own Reason will want to upgrade to Record. They wont be caught up in the supposed marketting hype.
Crikey at 149 big ones it will be well worth the wanking over the SSL 9000 alone. I honestly believe that I will be able to make better music with this application.

Cheers

then its a test of free market economics, innit. betcha that €299 they dont go bust doing it, though.

Does one need to own Reason for Record to function?

True enough.

I can see it being an expansion of Reason that they think they might be able to flog to a few thousand non Reason users, maybe, but they seem to be putting so much emphasis on non-Reason users. Is odd.

As you say though, they'll probably still be trading in a year.
