It sounds like Dune 3 will be getting lots of the requested feature updates, I would just like to add my voice to the request for a second fully featured filter, please please please?
I also think people should be more careful of using the word quality when they really mean character, it leads to so many wasted arguments in this context.

3 of 4 sound demos on the product webpage are trance. 3 of 3 soundsets for it sold by Synapse themselves are trance/EDM.AnX wrote:I wasnt aware Dune was being sold as a "trance synth"
No, it's unlikely Dune has anything to do with trance

I suppose the stacking of detuned waves is also what leads to that lack of definition that is typical of modern synth sounds and which I happen to dislike. I prefer synths that sound tight and funky rather than huge and diffuse.Richard_Synapse wrote:Sure, but this is largely because Dune 2 starts out completely neutral, i.e. oscillators/voices are perfectly in tune, oscillators won't drift unless you tell them too, there is no noise, the synth won't pull off unexpected shenanigans etc. So getting close to say a typical vintage-analog synth requires more work than e.g. in The Legend where those things are all happening right off the bat. I'm not sure this can be addressed in a general-purpose VA synth though, except we could provide additional Init Patches or Templates which set up stuff like this.
Now when you open or program a more complex "bombastic" patch those details are usually irrelevant, there is so much going on, the hearing doesn't care anymore if the individual oscillator or filter sounds dull or not (in fact a CPU-demanding filter is typically just wasting CPU cycles for such patches, in my view anyway).
Richard
I never thought of Dune as a general-purpose VA synth, frankly.

Shit! I better delete it, and the hundreds of non trance sounds i made for it, and replace it with a "non trance synth"recursive one wrote:3 of 4 sound demos on the product webpage are trance. 3 of 3 soundsets for it sold by Synapse themselves are trance/EDM.AnX wrote:I wasnt aware Dune was being sold as a "trance synth"

How could i have been so stupid

If anything, I never said that Dune is strictly a "trance synth" (which is a nonsence). Anyway, Synapse obviously promote it's ability to make trance-related sounds. For that matter, better trance-related sounds would help.

Sounds to me like dune3 is going to piss everyone off and it will sell like hot cakes @ the same time. There is only one way you can put two filters in dune and that's to rip more of the character out of it.

Dude the thing already tops out an i7 with solid state drive. It's something like 2500 oscillators going, In 8 different parts. The only way you are going to put more into it, is to take stuff out of it. And I find the comments about basic filters and oscillators very curious from someone who cared enough to put sullen key filters in his offering.

I really wish the following to be implemented in Dune 3, though I'm upgrading even if it lacks them all
:
1. 4 FM Operators instead of 3 with the known algos like in Operator (Ableton Live) (I don't mind taking a whole layer for that).
2. 2 Filters and some routings like in NI Massive
(that would be more than great!)
3. Option to colour every layer.
4. Larger middle screen without the modulation matrix, like in Sylenth1 and Hive.
5. The modulation matrix better to be in the keyboard section (like in Hive for example).
Well, I wish that, but nothing would be a deal breaker as I'm very positive that Dune 3 will worth it just for the various enhancements

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

No, putting an extra filter in it will not hurt it in anyway.
Dune 2 maxing out some computer when running an insane amount of oscs does not mean it should not get more features because not only do computers get faster but it is stupid to limit features because it will not be fast enough to be used when pushing an other feature to the extreme!
BTW SSDs and HDD have nothing to do with how many oscs and filters it can run.

Yes and please implement quantum computing and manipulate gravity while you are at it thanks.EnGee wrote:

If you pulled back the parts and oscillators... maybe? Actually I like and agree with you and your thoughts engee. It's just this extra filter thing. I don't have a problem with a single filter if you have unique filter shapes. Like the modal 008.

If you don't use audio rate modulation, there is nothing I mentioned is CPU hungry! The FM OPs are already there and considered to be just one Oscillator while I suggested it to be 4 OPs FM per layer (not per oscillator).
Two filters is not a new thing in synths! Massive has them for more than a decade! So?
