I find the wavetable interpolations not very smooth. Whatever i do i can´t get that smooth sound like i get in Dune 2. Maybe it´s because i like the wavetables in Dune 2 a lot more (even when this synth should be more limited here). Or i do something wrong. There is always a stepping sound when morphing trough the wavetable. Even at very slow rates.
O.k. i like it really in general but for me it´s still hard to use since beside the granular (and other IRCAM) stuff i have already other synths which are better in the other areas. It´s O.K. but using different synths to achieve the same is more cpu efficient for me.
However, there are a lot things which other tools can´t do so easy but this tool really needs a demo because it´s very hard to imagine due to the available videos and demo sounds if it fits.
Too late for me and it´s O.K. since i love the granular stuff, the convolver and IR reverb especially.
I will use it mainly as sampler. The synth engine is great but not behind other tools.
I hope this sounds not too negativ but it´s just how i feel about it compared to my other tools.
This might change since it´s only a 1.0 version. I´m sure there will be some good updates.

Read the thread again, it's been mentioned several times, audio rate mod via multi-envelope, zoom in, draw your own shapes, it's all there.
This thread currently has a size that makes it hard to follow everything. :)

Anyway thanks for your hint. I just used a Multi envelope to modulate the pitch of a wavetable oscillator and this could indeed lead to some really interesting results.
You can use the “search this thread“-function at the upper right, enter keywords and BAM, and please don't ask why ADSR doesn't work on Layer/Program level :D
The synthesis options in Falcon are alraedy crazy enough but adding audio rate modulation by the Multi envelope (e.g. for Osc Pitch or Cutoff modulation) makes it even more crazy... :hyper: :help:
If you haven't done so, also try modulating the rate of the multi envelope with things like key follow, or a slow random glide LFO, so those RM/FM-like sounds slowly fluctuate.

FWIW, Falcon handles true Stereo impulses responses

You can either use two stereo samples named .L and .R
or a 4 channel file.

You can simulate this using multiple Parts and a Program change script (in the Utilities folder of the factory presets) on the top level.

O.k. for evolving (and even playable) FX this thing is superb.
Here a short try. Just one or two notes playing at time.... :D
Made this patch in a few minutes.
There more i play with it the more i like it. This thing wakes up my dark side for sure :borg:

For a smoother wavetaböe playback you should activate the "Index" and "Octave" buttons found right to the wavetable display which activate the wavetable smoothing.

Of course the result also depends on how many waveforms are contained in the current wavetable which it looks could be between 4 and around 100 or more. Anyway yoiu could hear a huge difference when using a wavetable with 4 waveforms and then activate/deactivate the smoothing.

Anyway a continuous smoothing amount value like in e.g. Codex or PPG Wavemaper 2 would be indeed nicer than a simple on/off switch.

DUNE 2 does always seem to have wavetable smoothing activated and there does not seem to be an option to adjust the amount.

I already tryed this. Even the most complex wavetables with all smoothing options activated is not really smooth. Not sure how Dune 2 handles this (it can use only 64 waveforms compared to 256 in Falcon) but it´s very very smooth. Maybe it´s in the wavetables.... or in my head :D

Edit: Also when everything enabled and using 8 unison voices the cpu usage scared me. Dune 2 is also more friendly here, even with 32 unison voices.

DUNE 2 only has up to 8 unison voices (settings at the right part of te GUI). I guess with 32 voices you mean the "Multisaw" feature of the oscillators which is like a Supersaw/Hypersaw in the JP-8000/Virus TI but opposing to those synths for all waveforms and not just the Sawtooth.
This works differently from the Unison and indeed has a very low CPU use. This is true for all synths wit ha dedicted Supersaw oscillator instead of using an Unison for this.

If additionally you use the full 8 Unison voices in DUNE 2 the CPU use will dramatically increase there too...

My Novation UltraNova has such a "Multisaw" feature too and works there for all waveforms (and the wavetables) too. This is done with the two "Density" parameters in the Oscs. Opposing to the unison (which is included too) this does not reduce the polyphony of the synth. DUNE 2 uses a "Density" parameter too which goes up to 32 and represents the amount of detuend waveforms.

The big difference of the actual Unison in DUNE 2 is that each of the Unison voices could be a layer with totally different parameters. This is called "Differential UNison Engine" and the name DUNE comes from that...
That's why at the right part of the DUNE 2 GUI you got buttons called "ALL" and 1 to 8. With "ALL" you get the same parameters for all unison voices and with the number buttons you could edit each voice individually.

Yes... of course i mean the 32 OSC voices compared to the 8 OSC voices in Falcon wavetable.
Dune 2 can sound much brighter with low cpu usage here (at least for me).
Of course i could layer thousand wavetables in Falcon if i had a supercomputer :)
But the most important thing is that when i compare similar wavetables with the same amount of waveforms and i morph trough them Dune 2 sounds so much smoother. (But i find even Serum lacks here compared to Dune 2).
Well, i don´t want to turn that into another this vs. that thread.... so i stop whining about it.
They booth are superiour in their own area! (.... the best "supersaw" has still the little Sunrizer synth, the only which can really sound like a JP8000).

I am so tempted by Falcon! Thing is, I have the chance to get my hands back on a, obviously more expensive, Yamaha FS1R. Very different sounds but some of the examples folks have shared over the past few pages are tickling my fancy!

Decisions, decisions..... (I hate GAS)
