Hmmm...there are so many detaiks I've just learned here thank you, but no shame since am a FL newbie!
I wish one can freeze (render) any channel-s any time to relief the cpu and it would stay in its place as a new Audio Clip channel plus conveniently inserted in the Playlist by default..
I do wish someone says it can be done! I had to render four channels then inserted this clip in the Playlist by hand. It played with the rest only after I lit the first note in the Audio Clip steps. Now there could be a better way or shortcut for that, but I am unaware of it.

Let's see... make sure each channel you want rendered has its own mixer channel. Click on the "Disk recording" icon in the mixer, then "Render to wave file". Once it's down, it leaves the output as an audio clip all set up for you.barni2 wrote:I wish one can freeze (render) any channel-s any time to relief the cpu and it would stay in its place as a new Audio Clip channel plus conveniently inserted in the Playlist by default..

Does this help?

It's quite difficult to explain properly what aspects of the piano roll i don't like, and i'm sure some of my descriptions are bound to be lacking, but here's a few points:jmh wrote: hoffy As an avid FL piano roll fan, I'd love to hear what these others mentioned offer that make them more usable for youNot to pick a fight but to see what it is about piano rolls in different hosts that work for people (my current hosts' piano rolls are total garbage compared to FL for example)
1) Not enough Zoom
2) Quantizing with FL sucks (IMO); that is, the graphics don't accurately represent some of the quantize options (1/16 note, 1/2 note etc.)
3) Non-intuitive layout/design (I can't be bothered expanding on this)
4) No "Controller lanes"
5) I can't open and look at more than one piano roll at a time
6) Its easier to loop sections in other hosts
(i could go on...)
I just don't like it. I spent ages fiddle-fu cking around with it trying to get to grips with it, and then i got a Pro Tools and a Cubase setup and figured out everything i needed to know in a matter of minutes. it was sooo much easier. And while i'm sure there's hundreds of FL nuts that will jump up to the Piano Roll's defense, that's not going to change my opinion.
And in any case i don't actually use the piano roll too much anymore so i don't care. FL for me is about sketching out ideas, testing VST's and making drum loops, everything else- mixing, arrangements, mastering etc. gets done in the proper environment- Cubase =)

I like FL Studio's piano roll, however there are some things that bug me.
Firstly, there's just ONE piano roll. Every track that has a piano roll, you can only get one displayed.
I just checked with Orion, and it has a piano roll per instrument.
Which is better, one global one or several? On the face of it, several seems better... but FL Studio has 'ghost view'. You can see the current instrument plus all the others as 'ghosts' - makes editing a piece real easy.
The only snag with FL Studio's ghost mode is if you then split a pattern into several pieces, as you would inevitably do, then you lose that ghost feature as it only works per pattern. You cannot pick one track and then ghost as many others as you'd want.

This helps me a lot indeed thank you imekon.
It is getting clearer now! This can be done only in Song Mode (there is no way to render a pattern by itself it would be a nice feature though).
FL stands out in versatility among many hosts but some important capabilities are not very obvious to users (at least not directly).
Off-topic: Lots of things evolved since DD but the magic will survive (I used the Music Box!).

Did you know that the PPQ settings (default 96) influence this? Just wind it up...problem solved.hoffy wrote:

I wish you could move mixer channel tracks; say you introduce a new track and want to have it in between two existing ones then you could reassign track numbers somehow but keep all the inserts intact...or alternatively, an insert function: "insert empty mixer channel" or something.....

I wish it was simpler to record audio. I hate the way audio recording is implemented in FLS5. If I really need to add an audio part, I invariably end up going over to Sonar to get my audio work done then import it into Fruity. Needless to say I don't have many audio parts in my FLS projects.

The big "what's missing for me" in FLS is the non-resale policy. FLS is a fantastic product but I am not using it and would like to pass it on to someone who would - but it's not allowed.

They are not complaints, they are reasons why i don't like FL's Piano Roll- which someone in this thread requested to know.Carbonboy wrote:Did you know that the PPQ settings (default 96) influence this? Just wind it up...problem solved.hoffy wrote:

And i don't think "PPQ settings" is a particularly intuitive (or "easy") solution to this problem, especially considering other people have mentioned it in the past- clearly i'm not the only one who didn't think "not enough zoom... oh, right, PPQ Settings!"
So anyway, i'd love it if you could "easily" solve my other "complaints"; how do i get FL to communicate with my hardware devices? PDC? Why is audio handled so terribly?
...?
FL's great for what it is, but it's still a long way to go before its anywhere near the same league as PT or Cubase... so lets all stop pretending that it is

I had a major problem a few days ago. I discovered far too late that FL doesn't recognise signals MIDI pedal signals, which was quite unfortunate after I'd just recorded my client's 6 minute piano piece to MIDI
I booted up Tracktion and it worked straight away. I would have liked it if the MIDI implementation worked there instead of me having to get it working in another program.
