The people who he's "stuck with" are the people who've paid him for all this time for his work. Rather than being "stuck with" us, it'd improve the situation immensely if us customers and our views and opinions had a little more weight to them. Not getting into specifics, it's just a tad weird that improvements people have been asking for over the years are finally being considered for V7.BONES wrote: I don't really know for sure but I get the impression that we're the customers Rich is stuck with, not the ones he had in mind when he started down this road.
And from my POV, those of us who didn't make the switch to Platinum and part with more money, have been second class every since.
... which of course means that if V7 delivers in the usability/workflow department, it's finally time to pay for it. At least I'll be gaining a shitload of good sounding synths and effects with it, which is nice.
And FWIW, it's the same situation with most other software. Although I've been surprised by Gol reacting to suggestions from a nonuser, the big picture still is that there's a lot of things that could be improved, but either the majority of the registered users are incapable of understanding the benefits and thus argue against it, or things just don't fit the company's "vision" about how the app is and could be...
(I seriously cannot comprehend why little optionable things that save users from tedious repeated actions are always dismissed, especially if they're implemented as a user selectable option. Applies to everybody, not just IL - and I'm not talking about freeze just in case someone concludes something as odd as that from this).
Gee, I wonder why it never happened...BONES wrote:I tihink he envisaged selling ORION into all the big studios rather than to all the single and double bedrooms.
A safe assumption would be that most of them, in the end, just want to get music done. Funny though that even the simplest suggestions regarding workflow enhancements (not even daring to think about features) are always met with a great deal of resistance. If not from Rich directly, from the vocal users.BONES wrote:Its probably quite disappointing for him that the vast majority of his customers have a completely different agenda.
I pretty much gave up on suggesting anything after all the fighting about small stuff like the window behavior back in the day. Less stressful when not banging one's head against a wall. I still dig Orion and it has its uses - it just hasn't been the tool for me to get things done nor the tool for inspiration. From what I've learned in this thread, V7 might change it for me.
Of course I could get eXT in the meantime since it's so "simple" and "easy to use" and has more features than anything else

Im only guessing, but i think a part of the problem is the small user base. Rich made this originally for himself, working how he wanted it to. If a tiny amount of users request something, it wont hold much weight (right or wrong)jmh wrote: The people who he's "stuck with" are the people who've paid him for all this time for his work. The biggest problem is that Orion never had an official forum to start with, and even now it has, very few (less than 1000) users actually use it to make themselves heard.

The new beta skin is the best I've seen so far. I'm using it as my main skin now. I'm gonna recolorize it a little though. I'd like a little more "bright lights and flashiness". LOL.opia wrote:Bones mentioned earlier that Coramel is tweaking the skin for v7
I've been using a tweaked version of Coramel's skin for quite some time now. It's really not half bad
