Absolutely. I can't believe it's not possible to stretch a clip AND adjust the pitch at the same time. If you try it, either one option or the other is greyed out. Infuriating.

(I actually stick XT2 inside Sonar to get this done at the moment)

I actually realised I had 3 factors instead of 2... I play keyboard and drums, and not so much on bass so yeah....

Either way, if at least two of those gripes are rid of, I'll consider switching to REAPER. In the meantime, ACID's great other than the fact it kills my PC due to its resemblance of a virtual pig.

I use Cubase and can do whatever I need in it so no need to change really.


It'd have to give me something I need (and Cubase doesn't have it) - this is harder than you'd think, because I'm pretty unimaginitive as far as sequencers go.

Meaning - even if there was some great new feature it probably wouldn't have touched me. I'm getting old

I'm going to give REAPER a serious try this weekend.

My dilemma is....upgrade to the full version of REAPER or upgrade to Cubase4.

both are close enough in price where I could say they are the same.

I like the work flow of Live and the audio warping for composing and getting a quick vibe. I use Protools for mixing and big studio compatibility. There is just no reason for me to use Reaper even though I love the concept and the business model.

I use Reaper for mixing only, real drums, real guitars, real bass, rendered VSTIs. I like A LOT the routing capabilities of Reaper, the dragable inserts and sends, the ability to drag and copy to another track, the Sidechaining feature (if you ever try to separate Kick, Snare and Toms in live drumming, you get the picture). Of course Twisted lemon's sidekick3 is great but only 4 channels and dbAudioware's Comp and Gate are very useful but they let pass a few miliseconds of audio, so you have the SD spike leaking in the toms buss.
You can fix that putting a dummy SD track a few ms ahead and that's it. But, IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, Reaper uses the same CPU resources much better than SX3. And the CPU and RAM performance meter IS A PRO ONE.
If I want pro score, I do it in SX3, if I want to warp a multitrack performance, I rewire Live to SX3 (that's my secret weapon), If I want to mix with my CPU at 95% without stuttering, I finish my project in Reaper.
Diff tools for diff tasks, no more complicated than that.
Visually, having 2 rows of the mixer in one screen, FOR ME, it's great.

I don't use it becuase when i had tryed it crashed over and over. Plus, i am totally comfortable with the tools i have at my disposal. To learn a different way of working would slow me down and really just wouldn't make sense for me to do when i am in love with what i use already.
To each his own though, i am enthusiastic and happy with my host(s) like the users of reaper are.
I think it is funny when poeple get called fan boys and criticized for liking something. that is probably the most silly insult i see poeple use,"fan boy"

A fan boy to me just shows that a product is either good or has extreme potential. Poeple like it so much that they speak on it alot.

I have XT and ive been testing Reaper for a while. This is what I think...

Reaper is at the same stage Tracton was at. Its brilliant at audio but alot of traditional sequencer users dont want to use it. If Reaper packaged XT with it it would be cool for everyone. Heres why...

Both sets of developers are not competing for the same markets but they do complement each other. Reaper is optimised for audio which is why the live recording Dudes love it (the main reason why peeps loved Traction in the beginning). XT is optimised for sequencing and manipulating data.

Both developers could concentrate on their markets without having to add "the feature of the month" and turn their apps into a multi menu'd labyrinth. They both have useful skill sets for each other and

Both sets of users would benefit from mixing with each other. I use XT and love making music but mastering is always an up hill struggle. Im sure the Reapers peeps would have more experience in dynamics. I'd assume the fact that Reapers midi isn't its strong point would mean the opposite for finding about midi composing.

One of THE best features of Reason is the "tab" flip around. If ReaperXT (tm) flipped around with tab you'd have a program far, far, FAR greater than the parts. Worked for Live

The ONE time I tried Reaper it locked up my computer. I'm afraid I'm one of those types that this scares the absolute hell out of, so I was done with it - for good. I have SONAR 7SE, ACID 5 and eXT 1.4 and between those three, I can pretty much do whatever I need to - and they work well together.

No offense to Reaper users - I'm glad it works for you. Heck, Jesus makes the FX, so it can't be all bad. Or is that just a marketing ploy?
