headquest seeing that you brought up the Frequency Band Splitter and we're getting into the innerds of AA here I though I'd bring up the next logical step.

The MultiChannel Encoder.
Image
Use this with the files from the frequency splitter and you can make the audio 3D! You can then Export to WMA surround or fold down to stereo (for a pseudo 3D effect :D).

You can find this hidden jem in the Multitrack by pressing CTRL - E

this is one of those things where samplitude takes it further. For the pan (and staying away from 5.1 or 7.1 surround) you have a choice of pan or two channel surround. Two channel surround needs no encoding so it plays back perfect on any stereo. You naturally can have this choice as many tracks as you want. It gives you several choices of views for placing the sound and you can really get tremendous imaging from it (including depth perception).

On top of that in the master bus or as an insert on as many tracks as you want there is a multi-band enhancer. This is like a stereo widening effect except you have the ultimate control of it. You have three definable ranges, bass, mid and highs, for each range is an expand (from mono to wide), pan, and gain. You also can solo each one so you can hear exactly what frequencies you're manipulating. Between the two (and sometimes I use the multi band compressor) I can get some of the most 'open' mixes I've heard.

I really liked the multi-band frequency splitter in AA but this kind of makes it obsolete for me.

Hink: Is the multiband enhancer included in the VST plugin releases from Magix? I've been looking for a good enhancer (there's not many around it seems!). Cheers.

no it's not one of those fx, it's one of the basic fx with samplitude. I'm not sure if it's part of magix studio, but it still wouldn't be vst. :shrug:

Bevoss wrote:Cheers for that! I'm only using Reaper, for some reason I thought you used Sonar as well as Live so I was just seeing how you handled it.

Btw I made up an autohotkey script mapped to Capslock & C, that copies the file name of the item in Reaper after I 'render as new take'...then I'll hit 'E' to open it up in Audition, and try effecting and then exporting, and paste the name in when prompted and overwrite.

If this works I'll ask Xenakios if he'll include 'Copy Filename' in his Extension Plugin natively.

Also I should be able to feed the audio into Reaper via ReaRoute, to save disabling Reaper's device.
Bevoss, since you love the macros in Reaper so much, I highly recommend a specific feature for you to try when demoing Audition(if you do demo it): scripts. It's not a scripting language alone, but instead a recorded macro.

Basically, you can record your actions in a sequence and save it as a script. You can then apply that script at any time, to a single file, or you can apply it to a whole batch of files in the batch processing screen.

Of course underneath it all is a scripting language and you can edit the scripts in Notepad. But you don't have to use that. Just record and save and you can use it later.

Just thought I'd let you know! Tell me if you have problems with it if you try it. I'll try to help.

Bevoss the scripting in AA is almost like the AutoScriptWriter included with AHK.

You do know that you can send a CTRL 0 or equivelent with BlockInput, On then paste the cliboard to the specific field in the Dialog box all from AHK right?

Let me know if you need help with this..

Also you know that AHK can write directly into an AA script or Reaper macro right? See FileAppend.

So you can get some really customized actions going on :tu:

Hey, very interesting regarding scripting...cheers for that! I knew SoundForge could but I didn't know that about AA, that's way cool.

Btw I don't think you can write into a Reaper macro, as the macros consist of actions, not scripts. But you can trigger Reaper macros as part of a script.

EDIT: actually you can with Reaper's api, but I'd have to write a plugin in C++ and I'm not up to speed with that yet.

Sorry, can you expand on that? I use AutoScriptwriter a lot when writing a script, but I haven't used the desribed action yet.

headquest wrote:There was an upgrade path from Cool Edit Pro to Audition right up to Audition 2. It was available directly from the Adobe website internationally as a download.
Yeah, for CEPro but never for CE2k, which I had already spent quite a lot of money on, having bought several plug-in packs. It was actually quite a good deal for CEPro owners and for new users because Audition is a lot cheaper but for saps like me who had already spent around $150, it was a matter of "STFU and give us more money".
Also it is fair to point out (as BONES does) that similar results can be acheived in a conventional host. In this case, the effect can be acheived by repeatedly rendering the audio file using an EQ to notch out each frequency band one by one.
That would be one way but it could be done far more easily in ORION by adding a BandFX container to the track, setting the split-points and slope, then adding the desired effects to each frequency band. All done real-time on a single track using simple, familiar and easy to use tools [or really complex ones if you feel the need to]. no extra rendering and no extra fuss.

When I saw that I rang Adobe but they would not honour it here in Australia. I rang them on another occasion when I saw another offer but they wouldn't do that here, either.

Bastages!
I can't comment on Sonar though ... I used that for a few months after receiving a promotional copy, but it didn't really click with me in terms of workflow, so I've not kept it.
Now that's a fine and civilised example of how users of one DAW should refer to their experience with another! :)

The biggest problem with the Audition scripting language is that it's more or less undocumented. But people who persevere with it do seem to get some handy results.

There's also the "Favourites" option. But I'll leave someone who has used it to describe it!

Bevoss here is a very simple rough sketch of how to enter the path name into the dialog box automatically. I'd personally use ControlSend instead as it is more accurate and you don't have to block the mouse and keyboard as the commands are sent virtually.

You will also have to decide on how your going to get the file path name into the variable FP (file path). The simplest way is to use a FileSelectFile command.
You can also use an InputBox but you'l have to pre specify the working directory as another variable 1st.

Code: Select all

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;THIS SELECTS AUDITION
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

WinWait, Adobe Audition,
IfWinNotActive, Adobe Audition, , WinActivate, Adobe Audition,
WinWaitActive, Adobe Audition,
Sleep, 100

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;THIS OPENS THE OPEN DIALOG BOX AND BLOCKS THE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE FROM INTERFERING
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

BLOCKINPUT, On
Send, {CTRLDOWN}o{CTRLUP}
Sleep, 100

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;THIS TEMPORARY VARIABLE HOLDS THE FILE PATH
;NOTE: YOU CAN SPECIFY THE VARIABLE FP WITH EITHER AN INPUT BOX OR SELECT FROM A DIALOG BOX
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

FP = %A_WorkingDir%\*FILE NAME.FILE*

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;THIS COPIES THE VARIABLE FP TO THE CLIPBOARD, PASTES IT INTO AA'S DIALOG BOX AND PRESSES ENTER.
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Clipboard = %FP%
Send, {CTRLDOWN}v{CTRLUP}
Sleep, 100
Send, {enter}
BLOCKINPUT, Off
Remember you may have to select AA's 'open file' dialog box again if you use an InputBox or FileSelectFile dialog box to generate the path after it is initially open (so do it before ;)). Also CTRL - O can be substituted with the more advanced ControlSend to specific Menu - Sub Item (File Open) or better yet WinMenuSelectItem.

Hope this helps a bit.

Yeah, the scripting is great for batch-processing stuff - they still use the same system as they did in Cool edit 2, but it's a great system.
The batch-processing multiple-actions in goldwave is a tad better though, I'd have to say. But the algorithms are nowhere near CE/AA's.

BTW you guys know you can open external apps from within AA right?

Look at Favorites click on New and click the Tool tab. The thing is it gives you full Command line so if you know the tools command line switches you can theoretically use this to send files from AA to another app.

The question I have is where do I find an apps Command Line Switches? These are usually undocumented and not universal (or are they?). If anyone knows this please please let me know :D

Thanks

May I ask why there is more or less no documentation of the scripting language?
