I'd like to have a try at making a bank for TDM. I haven't ever tried something like this, so I'm kind of bumping around in the dark.
I've looked at some of the existing SF2 files, and it looks like they are made up of WAV samples, some with loop points. Most are 44.1/16, but some are less than 44.1 (22.05). What are the parameters for the raw WAVs? Can we use 24-bit audio, or is 16 the limit? Is there a limit on sample length?
Could you point me to the parameters I need to know in order to begin making a bank? I assume I have to create my own WAV files.
Thanks!

No hurry, Fortune.
I know you are busy, and I am happy to wait for you to do it when convenient for you.
Thanks!

Here is a thread on kvr leading to lots of soundfont ressources. Ok, some links may be broken, but anyway it's a good way to start.

also there is a similar thread for sample sites:

I have a question regarding the content of SF2 sets for TDM. Is it legal, or ethical, to create my samples by recording preset sounds from commercial synths?
I messed around with creating a couple sounds with Z3ta+ for use in a potential soundset, but, as you pros know, it's no small thing to come up with an interesting and useful sound. It would be so much simpler to record WAVs using, say, Z3ta+ presets (or presets I tweak a bit), and then using them to make a bank for TDM.
However, I'm not sure if it's legal to do so. And, if it is legal, is it ethical? I'd love to have some Z3ta+ style sounds in TDM, but I don't want to be a hack.
Thanks.

hmmm, well tmo if you just do it for your own usage in order to create your owm music this should be no problem. As such a case should be comprised within the terms of personal usage. In some way this is similar to bouncing a track in this case a small portion to be processed then different. Thus as long as these samples as such (of course not the music created by using these) are kept solely on your workstation there is hardly anything to be objected.dburns wrote:I have a question regarding the content of SF2 sets for TDM. Of course this is different (depending on the terms of license conditions) if You were going to make money with such samples as samples or sample library.

Thank you for this AMAZING "machine" my friend!!! I have been at-it for about 35-6 hours straight, as of this moment! Simply AWESOME!!!Fortune wrote:ok,

Thank you for the above also... I haven't wanted (or needed) to make soundfonts (banks/instruments) for YEARS, but THIS has inspired me to do so
At the very least, to come-up with some 'counter' "darkside" sounds
(where did I stash that "SB-Live!" ???)... and (sigh) '98se.
That said:
A new Vienna 2.40 (24 bit support + other stuff)

Here's a couple more sf2 'tutes', that are "Vienna" specific... (woo hoo!)

The update to 1.2 has been done
changes & bug fixes:
added selectable step intervals to the OneShot part while still keeping the option to set to a fixed interval (ranging from 4 to 16 bars)
btw. the oneshot sample is triggered at the end of the selected bar interval.
changed display of CL4 which does show now the bar steps.
fixed display and order in wave seq. after patch change so this is working properly now.
changed: after patch change the machine is no longer forced to stop playing instead continues fairly smoothly.
Have fun
HG Fortune
P.S.: Mails to registered users have been sent already - if someone hasn't got it - please mail me.
