Compared with the almighty Boss NS-2 it fails epically (along with every other noise gate/supressor IMO)

To "sascha" :

Well, First of all thank you so much for this wonderful piece of software, as you probably read this thread, I already said that I own and work with almost all the Amp sims around, I do USE them all the time, but recently Vandal this new baby shocked me with its great sound quality and since now it will be my MAIN amp sim, well as you prefer to call it "'custom amplification'. Thanks again and keep up the great work but please as IK people did with their software, as they are updating their products in a very smart way and I absolutely LOVE IT, I hope Vandal as well get updates once in a while. I mean please! fix the problems with MIDI and crashing and I will be more than happy to use your software.

And also thanks for the clarification about me in this forum because many conspiracy theoreticians are monitoring this forum and they have found me a good victim ! lol.. anyway Thanks again for everything.

To Hink :

Thanks for the logical words. As he said : "I'm not sure what's really all that bad about the op's posts, I've seen just about all of us say similar on one product or another especially the ones being more vocal about it..."
Well at last someone realized that I'm just a musician and gear lover, well I appreciate it. And BTW I already said zillions of time that I AM NOT working for any music or audio or developer company, any person, any creature or any being at all,
actually I'm a Ph.D Student in philosophy and meanwhile and beside my work as teacher and student my semi-pro hobby is Music gears, especially amps and guitars.

To Zerocrossing :

Well m8, first of all be cool, I'm not here to fight you or anyone, I'm simply here to share my ideas and learn more from guys like you on the forum, that is ALL !
Secondly, why you are killing yourself to disprove or prove this statement and that statement ? why? what's wrong really ? well I said something about Amplitube which as I said before I was working with it for more than 5 years
and honestly I LOVE it yet beside all my quality plug-ins, and I'm still using them all. so again I'm asking what is wrong bro ? if you are talking about my statement where I said I can get an exact tone out of many amps in AT, well that is true,
I honestly can get a very very similar tone out of many amps in AT, is it bad ? is it wrong ? is it a crime ? I'm not saying AT IS BAD ! I'm not saying AT is GOOD ..I'm saying AT IS GREAT ! ..
but VANDAL IS BETTER TO MY EARS THAN GREAT AT FOR NOW! is it clear enough ?

You also copy-pasted one of my posts here AGES ago about AT2, well m8 IN THAT TIME I was thinking the same about AT2 as now I am thinking about Vandal, well it is technology, it is evolving,
it is going forward, so I'm asking again what is wrong with that ?

Also you said : "I'm a IK Multimedia Fanboi for sure, but I also try to be fair and critical of it." Well honestly this sentence alone from you can does not have any logic in it. M8 THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE IN THE REAL WORLD
THAT ARE NOT AGREE WITH YOU. So stop being as you said "FANBOI" and let other people also share their opinion without the fear of burning by FANBOIZ without any actual reason. However Being a
FANBOI YOU CAN NOT EVER be Fair and Critical too, no one can be both at a same time. being a FAN of something is different than being a FANBOI.

and again to you dear Zerocrossing, "Hink" said something in his post which was true in my opinion as well. But I did not see you to respond to it actually. He said :

"I don't want to be an ass and say speak for yourself, but that is kind of how I feel inside. So I'm a little confused on what your post is suppose to add, zc...
no offense intended of course because I consider you a friend first but I dont see the point, especially how it sounds like being "in the margin" is negative."

Moreover, yes ZC I own all my plug-ins, all of them as I own all my dogs and as I own all my guitars and amps and gears, cuz I respect to developers, sound engineers and professionals when they put time and effort to make their products, BTW I'm not a Fanboi, I'm not a teenager (wish I was though)
to just use the illegal version and enjoy it (what is NFR copy btw?), I actually USE ALL MY GEARS included all my software all the time in my home studio. I'm old enough to understand how much developers suffer to give life to a new software to let us enjoy making music. I hope you got your answer.

and to you "jens" :

Sorry m8 but it seems you still need to do your homework, did not you learn your first lesson yet ? ..Anyway I already answered your question in ZC answer, read it or well I have no more comment then for you really. Enjoy
being waster of people's time here and there.

And Finally Thanks everyone and sorry If my behavior was not appropriate sometime. And as usual sorry again for my bad English.

Cheers

:)

Silenceborn wrote: actually I'm a Ph.D Student in philosophy.

ah, that explains it then - it's all dialectic, isn't it?

oh, b.t.w.: I'm wondering what's the purpose behind putting my name into quotation marks (especially given the fact that it's my real name while you use a dodgy pseudonym). :?

Post

These are the facts Dear jens :

Technologies Evolve.. People's taste can change, People bodies also change, their ears change, world is changing my friend, It was and is and will change forever and ever, and if you do not try to be in harmony with it, you will suffer the sub-sequences for sure..

BTW wish I had lots of free time just like you who can dig into people's dusty archive and bring out LOGICAL statements lol..seriously go enjoy your fav amp sim and be productive man :P

Anyway if you have problems with those "PERCENTS", m8 open your mind, I already said though, first of all they are numbers, I just said a number, it could be 98% instead of 90 or 95% ..I was not thinking about the ACTUAL percent when I was writing my posts, I just wanted to give an idea about the stuff IN THAT TIME, BTW even if I did, what is wrong with that? Also, Do you believe this world is a constant and static place (just like a static snapshot of a cab, Aka IR) without any change ?

Think again.. .

Cheers

EDIT : edited and removed those "quotation marks". it is almost 12:00 am here and I came back home only almost 2 hours ago and sat behind this damn PC. I'm tired so I may make some mistakes on typing and I'm sorry about it.

Forget amps, Heidegger->Gadamer or Derrida? Hermeneutics or deconstruction? Give me something to bite on here and we can have a REAL talk

Well Agreed!! Just the offer I was looking for!!

Here goes, Modeled cabs, or IR Cabs(excluding Nebula, They are in a league of their own). Personally, I like modeled cabs!
KM

EDIT: Ahh nevermind, its off topic..:)

Post

Well Agreed, to be specific, I'm a student of Philosophy of Religion/Comparative religion, so naturally I'm more towards Hermeneutics though it can never satisfy me, I prefer to observe and experience the world from Upanishadic/Esoteric philosophy point of view to be honest.

And ofc its counterpart in western/middle eastern schools of thought, e.g. Hermeticism, Neo-Platonism, Zoroastrianism philosophy, beside the eastern schools of thought such as Vedantaism/Mahayana and specifically Vajrayana. Actually my last paper was about the esoteric concept of "Dukkha" in Buddhism, specifically the northern Buddhism, Vajrayana in compare
with core teachings of Zarathustra (a.k.a Zoroaster) in ancient Persia. And honestly I find the modern philosophy so boring for my taste. full of dry pre-defined logical terms which never make sense, especially when you compare them with ancient schools of thought I find the grand father's dialogs more interesting than this extremely complex systems of thought which has forgot the "Rabbit Hole" and its wonders and stuck to the details, and well everyone knows that "Problem of Evil" begins when we enter into details ! :D :P

BTW I do agree with you JohnnyMcFly, Modeled Cabs for me as well :)

And as usual sorry for my bad English.

Cheers.

sascha wrote:Hi guys,

I just came back from vacation and discovered this thread.
Doing plugins for almost a decade now and being part of kvr nearly as long, it doesn't all make me wonder that much. Of course I'm *very* connected to my work, heart-wise, but my work is 'profession' for 7 years now, so I have to face everything associated with it.
Extracting the usual 'kvr noise' (which is still fine for me, and often refreshing, otherwise I wouldn't be here), there are a few things I'd like to add from myself:

The OP's opinion:
I don't know the OP, and I haven't heard that somebody related to us started or would start an underground vandal rave. To me it simply seems someone is happy with it (which also makes me happy :)).

Hype:
It's true that we announced vandal a year ago (on Musikmesse 09). But it's not true it took us a year to release it, nor wanting to keep up a hype discussion. Back in April 09, we presented it as part of the coming Samplitude 11. Sure, it was presented and notified as being sort of seperate, and we said we *consider* releasing it as a VST (not having clearly thought/said Mac then). But all communication was clearly focused on the Sam11 inclusion.
Samplitude 11 was then released in late June 09 in Germany, which sums up to ~3 months timespan before release. [Well, I changed a bit under the hood since then, all later versions sounded way better.] The international release then took place in autumn 09.
We ourselves didn't do any hype. Long-term Magix customers would agree we don't do much marketing of our pro-audio products. There was just a couple of early beta testers of the Sam11-bundled version (such as Dimi, who also gave invaluable input during development), some early web forums talking, youtube vids, and the vandalamps blog (written mostly by myself, in my spare time; the company wasn't that much involved in it, at least not supervising it).
The fact that we now created sort of a 'Vandal' brand and set up a dedicated website (vandalamps.com) is just due to our internal confidence that we've created something pretty good. As users can read on our 'technology' page (http://www.vandalamps.com/en/technology.49.html) and also in the blog, the plugin went through a few stages of evolution before we even considered it being a 'product'. So there was simply no reason to stir things up on our side in the first place. While the people around me starting raving, I was the least certain (knowing my faults best). I still believe these things need to mature, as often with instruments or pieces of equipment.

Competition:
As explained in the blog as well as on the 'official' website and in personal interviews, Vandal isn't meant as the 'final' software amp, at least not for everybody. We see it as 'custom amplification' because it has a certain signature and doesn't want to be everybody's darling. I'm sure it can fit perfectly in a certain situation, as much as to totally fail in another. As with any gear, be it software or 'real'. All my preceding plugins have always been kind of 'polarizers' in this respect, so that's perhaps 'tradition' ;)
I personally am very prone to get overwhelmed and lost with products that offer too much stuff and choices, that's why I tend to strip down my plugins in some way. I like simple things, such as twisting a knob. I dislike intensive menu browsers and tons of presets, partly because I feel I need to know what's going on and may perhaps lose control over the whole thing.
Of course these are personal feelings, and that is dangerous when you develop a product based on your own assumptions, but many people around me felt similar. Some felt otherwise, so there was of course a bit of a compromise in some parts of the plugin. But the overall statement was still to be different, at least to be another color in the palette. I generally fear the amp modeling world is getting too 'uniform', in contrast to the real world outside, with all these small boutique and backyard people.

It's perhaps also a matter of application or expectation. Products like GR, AT, GTR, L6 etc. are - at least for me - aimed at people wanting to substitute their real-world amps, wanting the same sound (or how near one can come). Which is legit.
Vandal was designed to be pretty much the contrary: it's an own piece of gear. It has no real counterpart. It's got no history, no destination. Use it as you like. Love it or hate it.

Another word on 'competition': the world of plugin devs is comparatively small. Many of us know each other in some way. Thomas (AT1 & TH1) was very important for me during my first clumsy steps of plugin design back in 2001, I still owe him a lot of respect. I personally know of no single developer dissing a competitor's product, at least not with plugins. People are kind, really. I guess that's a thing we devs in this business really like, and what drives us onward. We are all dealing with one of the best things in life. And that's just too precious and luxurious.

Peace.
thank you sascha, I hope you had a good vacation :)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I wrote:
the OP's first post is more or less just a rephrase of what he wrote first about AT2 and then AT3 anyway - boy has got a new toy, gets all excited and then finally so confused as to think he's got some kind of valid&significant point and feels a sudden and unresistable urge to share it with all the rest of the world...

I see we're in agreement here. 8)

but that's exactly what makes this thread so meaningless. Iit doesn't contain any actual information other than how you feel about a certain plugin at a certain moment in time.
And the problem is that - being so full of euphoria - you attempted to present your temporary emotions as factual information regarding the quality of these toys (both the old one and the new one).

I wrote: been there, done that - better to resist though and to at least wait a few days until the excitement drops down to some sane&stable level...

Oh, and just for the record:

I'm not a huge fan of AT - Flying Haggis shits all over it anyway - and that's a fact. :hihi:

No layering in their either just 2Cabs per guitarist each with 3 mics on them = 12 mics (i can go into more detail if anyone wants just ask). All 'Live', no comping and the only thing i used 'extra' were a few kick drum samples layered with the original to subjectively make it sound 'better'. This was done late 2005 and its sounds like we did live in a room so im happy with it.

Amps are Two Dual Recto's, One JCM2000 DSL 50 And One 5150 Mk II, Each cab has mismatched celestions in them (i don't see the point myself of having the same four speakers in cab myself  ), In front of each amp were a Boss NS-2 with a TS-808/OD-808 in the NS-2's loop to get rid of the noise

All the best to you and all :)
