Frank, were you also using Hypersonic? If so, do you consider Halion Sonic to be a true successor?

I wouldn't buy HS based on the current selection of very lame sounding synthetic audio demos, and cheesy sounding drums that accompany them.

Hopefully, some HS users will change my current perception of HS by posting some great sounding audio demos of HS.

The fonts used in Halion Sonic infuriate me. I will instead give my hard earned cash to a dev that uses let upsetting fonts thereby reducing my already morbidly high blood pressure.

dj, I can't comment on the predecessor as it was nearly impossible to get after it was discontinued.

Some of the drums are a weakness in HS, e.g. the LedZep drumkit is a travesty.

That's what I currently think as well - I stay tuned but what I've actually heard does not convince me too.

Whilst I hope they've got it right, I can't help feeling that the bosses at Yamaha don't want to hurt Motif sales too badly... or else folks like me would spend £1500 less on the Yamaha pensions fund.

So, the question is: how close is close enough?

Some interesting points about how the drums are samples from years ago.
A couple have said it sounds good (the words "amazing" or "took my breath away" have not been used LOL) but also a CPU hog!!

I agree, there is no way are Steinberg are going to let HS eat into Motif sales.

I just get the feeling reading the threads that HS is not as good as first anticipated. There must be a reason for the reluctance to showcase acoustic, woodwind, brass and string instruments.

Frank T how's the screen cast turning out? Very interested to check it out

Getting very mixed messages between some of the posts here,and at cubase.net/halion sonic, you mentioned your quad handles well,that's the system I'm still using. Anyhow if you find time ,please let us know,luckily I'm not one for relying on drums in a workstation,as I have so many other apps for them it's not important to me. But like Dj Anthony mentioned the brass is huge in my book,and of course acoustic sounding instruments,just have to be right, of course you already mentioned they sounded good,but...

Bobby, it was another Frank offering screencast (see on p9 of this thread). I am flying out to Paris today so I can't do a vid. Just let me repeat: I am not dissapointend by HS and I am sure I will make good use of it. I own Kontakt and SampleTank, so I have some good comparisons at hand. Piano, Guitar, Bass, Synth and especially the Strings are very good. Loading and navigation is quick and easy and I think this product will grow content-wise with Halion4 coming up. With the Brass sounds I am not impressed, nor with the drums.
