actually, any knob could do it, mostly when I had a bunch of instances in reaper playing. I think it's when the CPU is already on the verge of bogging, and it rarely froze completely. mostly would just get boggy! all in all I had it working pretty good. Also, Reaper would almost crash every time I closed a project with Zyn on it. I say almost, as it would give me the "do you want to send an error report" dialog, but would then just happily close the project and open my new one, or close, depending on what I had asked it to do. Don't remember which version # but it was the first one with the 16 tracks working. (I ended up just doing separate instances anyway.)jackoo wrote:gorgorgathgorgorgor wrote: umm just curious...? which knob? what circumstances? and which VST version?

Great stuff guys.
I was half expecting you would skip this one Yeager so glad you perservered.
But Laurence, can you pls use the KVR nick in the song title (+mp3 tag) so we all know who it is when voting etc, cheers.
I'm anyway totally lost as to what to do with final mix. On my studio speakers I need to crank up the top end and widen the stereo of the headphone production, but on the crappy living room set which I probably am most used to with TV and everything going through, the headphone mix actually sounds more right than the speaker mix..

@Yeager: you're the master of Zyn electric guitar. Is that a default patch?
LE: yea sounds like Dist Guitar 5. Am I right?

Made the deadline this time, but then Zyn was a joy to work especially after updates by Jackoo so thx for supporting the challenge.
V'ger - Zynith
Reaper
2 instances of Zyn
24 channels (instruments)
VSTs used:
ReaEQ
ReaComp
ReaDelay
mgTempoDelay
MjCompressor
MAutopan
Stormgate1
Ambience
TAL Reverb II
AriesVerb alpha
YOU WA SHOCK!
SAPEQ
SPAN
s(M)exoscope
Been saying this a lot, but again, this is my fave free synth by far.
The sound quality and range is phenomenal as is efficiency. With all these tracks where some have Zyn effects on them + all the other 3rd party effects, CPU was running at ~30% total which is unheard of apart from maybe some SSE2 stuff like Synth1, Predator and maybe Sylenth1 but I doubt it.
I would say it's right up there with my commercial synths and is probably gonna be used as much as any after the new updates. I simply don't have better synth strings, choir sounds and maybe bells anywhere. Drums is also difficult to find better from a synth.
And the editing options are vast. Maybe not so fun or intuitive as one-page stuff, but it's all there and then some. If this was packaged as a dedicated VST with improved ergonomics, it would be a match for any and surely a best seller and I wish Paul would do it.

Done, uploaded!
SoundCloud does something weird with the attacks but I've also uploaded the wav file so anyone can download that one if you wish. Probably the conversion to 128kbps, lame produces almost the same result
Even with -q 0. Well, whatever, I need some sleep (it's almost 3pm in the morning here).

I also think it would be good idea to collect some patches from this contest from those who wish to 'let them go into the wild'.

Zyn was a great synth agreed. I had a blast with the interface actually - it was much different from other synths.
Most synths you get a been there done that, but now it's on the upper left corner, instead of bottom right. With Zyn you get a wowwww I feel like learning synthesis all over again... wow I'm an ant right now. Feels much like exploring... very fun.

Nice stuff guys. Quite a good number of entries now.
Jeremy: All entries should be mp3 for now. If you fix it today I doubt there'll be any 'repercussions' during voting as you submitted on time..
I've already changed it to mp3 for the archive.
Also had to try the Bezier curve plus the spear shape does look good in SoundCloud.
Anyway, voting thread is up here, good luck all:

Are there any secrets to sequencing the echoes and wahs on Zyn? I adjust the knobs by site and sound but feel it would be better if i could automate to the bpm. any tips
Also, how do people master?
