Fxpansion have a NEW drum synth on the way!

What I always find so amazing with uTonic is that it's so compact, so damn easy to work with and every knob is tuned to perfection. No running around in menus or changing modules. Simplicity. And power!ZenPunkHippy wrote: Much as I love uTonic, Tremor is very different and I would say much more powerful (have been beta testing for a couple of months).

This is always the reason why I personally always come back to the little Tonic. Simplicity.
But with that said, it will be very interesting to check it Tremor out and while I am confident that Fxpansion get the synthesis right - I am more intrigued what kind of effect chains you can apply to individual sounds.

Yep, agreed. I'm not criticising uTonic - it's an excellent plugin for many reasons that finds a way in to most of my projects. What I always find so amazing with uTonic is that it's so compact ...

Each of the 8 synth has 3 Geist-style effect slots (so refer to Geist to see the sorts of effects you get); where it gets interesting is the parameters of the effects are DCAM-style TransMod destinations, and can also be affected by Geist-style pattern graphs.
So pretty quickly you find that you're linking in the LFOs, Envs, and other mod sources into the effects parameters as part of the sound design (within notes) *and* evolution of the sound over musical phrase timescales.
Is fun!

Me neither, I love uTonic and it's been my Staple Drum synth since a long, long time ago. But as with all things as time goes by you want to try something different. The Sample side of things is well covered in my life with Geist and StylusRMX, I've been a one drum synth guy for years and it's time for some new blood.ZenPunkHippy wrote:Yep, agreed. Agreed. I own more than one but I only use microtonic for these tasks. I found no need to upgrade from Guru to Geist but this little plug looks very interesting.philait wrote:I've been a one drum synth guy for years and it's time for some new blood.

utonic still sounds great after all this time.
Does Tremor model an actual drum synth or is it more analog characteristics?
@burkek, i demoed synth squad a few times in the past, the sticking point for me was the price but the sale got me to really explore it this time. I think for certain sounds it's great, i created this evolving soundscape in fusor just with cypher and the monomod. Well, my vst folder was missing a semi-modular and synth squad filled the gap.

Fxpansion said Tremor uses a "Cloud Oscillator" which is not a circuit-modelling technology.
It should however produce pretty cool sounds not typically heard from the usual subtractive synths that produce typical drum machines.

A cloud oscillator is just a bunch of oscillators with common controls, they can be circuit modelled or not. In this case they are.rockreid wrote:Fxpansion said Tremor uses a "Cloud Oscillator" which is not a circuit-modelling technology.

It's fairly typical synthy architecture, oscillator, noise, mixer, filter, drive stages etc, but a lot of it is tailored for drum sounds. The oscillator can produce multiple frequencies modelled around drumskin vibration intervals, the modulation sources are carefully picked, for example there two different envelope types, a super fast one for transient work and a slower one for the body and the general signal flow was designed very much with drum synthesis in mind.musikmachine wrote:Does Tremor model an actual drum synth or is it more analog characteristics?
Having said that, it makes killer synth style noises too

Man, this sounds like it's going to fill a nice little niche in my drum arsenal. Can't wait.

Quite excited about this drum machine.
It finally looks like FXpansion have hired someone other than Stevie Wonder to do the graphics for this one. Seriously. What is it with FXpansion and their product GUIs? They all look like something born in a Microsoft laboratory in the late 90s. Thankfully - this looks like a serious improvement.

Heh, whilst I don't agree that previous FXpansion UI's were that bad, I will take that as a compliment as I designed the UI for Tremor alongside FXpansion of course!Colin Bennett wrote:Quite excited about this drum machine.

Its amazing sounding software, intuitive as hell to use and looks bloody lovely
