Too busy to review the songs! Sorry about that! :/ But anyways, some really nice music here! Glad I found this forum!

The theme of the month was kinda restricting and it was hard to know what was allowed and what was not! :p Well, hopefully in the future competitions there will be more free themes as well! :D

And thanks to anyone who voted for me! :)

Post

i don't think i ever got this many votes! thank you so much guys!!!! that's awesome!

Haha, Bitte Schön! ;) That was a true traditional Deutsche Lied! :D

OK... let's see what I can do about reviews... There's a big bucket that simply didn't click for me. In general I've been fairly strict about what "monophony" means, so (along with getting your filename wrong!) you may also have "lost marks" for pushing the theme a little too far. Some entries, however, surpassed that particular rule.

offthewall
This takes the theme and creates something special. Wonderful. (but please use a hosting site that lets you put the file name in...)

kryptonaut
Rich and complex sounds used interestingly... I was thinking of something similar but couldn't have done it this well.

nahkaorava
An interesting choice of instrumentation and pretty good music, too!

GMoneh
Love the percussive use of the pipes. Pipes have such a rich character, monophony is almost not in their nature. Good tune.

rockstarnot
Now... this was just inside my threshold. I'd like to hear it with a gentle reverb and no echo, it'd probably be just as good.

LagunaRising
Very inventive and nice variations to maintain interest. Doesn't outstay its novelty.

evo2slo
Good tune - made my want to pick up my drum sticks and add to it. That alone gained you back the points for NO FILE NAME after the /download...!

Peterhud
At the threshold of my interpretation of monophony. Good use of an abstract approach and synth patch(es), though.

beanpole
A simple tune. Enjoyed.

EmeraldTablet
A simple tune dangerously daring to use something that sounds perilously close to sustain...

bzur
Ah, 2001, what a year... Nice piece but: that clicking... are you sure its frequency matched the tones above it? This was incredibly close to placing higher but at the last minute I decided it was stretching things just that bit too far in a few places.

mellotronaut
Lost points for file name and the drone. Otherwise would probably have placed.

docjon
Points off for file name, points off for that low note pluck. Lovely piece, though.

DHMiltz
Hm. Now. Well. Nice tune. This one was a tough call. In the end, I decided some of the fingering was just over my limit on "clever... too clever...".

inboxzero
I liked the percussion but the overall structure somehow didn't work for me - a bit too "lost and wandering".

forw
Pretty but not for me, I'm afraid - purely personal taste.

Patrick9
Hm. Interesting. But I didn't understand the musical structure. Probably just be me.

my-ear-bleeds-wine
Another simple tune... too simple?

nikp2000
As above - needs to try harder...

tuz
Not for me, sorry. On theme, though.

misternatural
I guess I could have been getting tired by this point... but this didn't do anything for me somehow.

folderol
I liked the opening first minute but it went downhill from there, I'm afraid. By half way in I was struggling not to hit skip.

softegg
No idea what this was trying to do musically at all. I didn't make it to half way.

jjbiener
Sorry, I didn't have time to check if you'd sorted out the download limit on SoundCloud.

FriendlyStranger
Sorry, all I got was a GIF.

don't know, what you're talking about  there is no drone in our piece. my voice alters with Karin's flute. what about the file name? can't find anything wrong. :?

Thanks for the reviews, pljones.

When I play the piece, there's a constant whine in the background that goes away when I stop playing it. It's not present when I play other pieces. It's pretty quiet. That's what I'm calling the drone. It may be an effect caused by my headphones, of course - I can't see anything obvious looking in Audacity that I should be hearing. I checked a few times though, to make sure, though, so it's quite odd. Sorry!

Filename-wise, the link pointed to the Soundcloud page, not to the /download link, so I got an HTML into my MP3 player, which didn't work. Secondly, having missed "/download" the subsequent "?Guten_Tag.mp3" wasn't completely accurate as far as the naming convention goes. Both make my life harder in terms of organising material to listen to. Maybe I got the wrong file entirely?

Post

Ah, you're right about the link.

The file name looks almost right from here (a year off, but in the right format otherwise). Curious.

No idea about the whine.

i checked the link and indeed: it doesn't work, but i can't figure out why. anyway, the song plays well from the soundcloud window and it is downloadable. if there is a strange noise in the background, i can't hear it. maybe it's just the lack of a good mic, when i recorded. i used a podcast usb mic from Karin's son, because my audio interface didn't work.
anyway, the review is no review about the song, but a bug report and it smells a bit funny, someone would vote for a bugfree piece of music, he couldn't say anything about. i'm really very happy, when people vote for my stuff and also very happy about reviews. i know, my music is a bit 'strange' to the ears of a lot of people, because it is often in between the common and the unconventional. so the 'avantgarde' people aren't satisfied and the 'normal' listeners aren't either and that's ok. so this month i'm thrilled, more people than usual like our song.
what i don't get are reviews like pljones' one or the usual Folderol 'not my cup of tea' or 'not on my tree' laziness.
and about the download inconveniences: i live here in the mountains and when i order a cd from amazon, i have to go to the town's post office (which is 15 min and a lot of serpentines away by car and an hour by feet)to get it. no postman comes here to deliver the stuff.
I'm sorry, pljones. i can't help you.

Mr Miltz fixed the download for me (Thank you very much, Dan! :tu: ) and so you should be able to paste the link now. :)
