you know this is quite stable and very good program overall.
I managed to tempo map a sequence, similar to ableton and sonar where you can tempo map the item and have the project follow the item tempo or vice versa.
my head hurts from reading the user guide, seems to go over the same thing 5 times but everytime said slightly different just like cubase and sonar.

I like the "chunks" feature, but a terrible name for it though...
Still, I wished more DAW had this work flow!
So much more flexible - reminds me a lot of my workflow with Music-X back in the Amiga days, with the "play sequence" object you could insert into any sequence.
I record/jam out all my little sequences on the main page in the sequence pool.
Then place these non destructively with the "play sequence" object inside another sequence, which acts as the arrangement.
I guess you can say Abelton Live clips and arrange window is like this in a general way, but you can only have one arrangement in Live, and you can't nest things inside each other
Superb workflow! Having all these non destructive alternate song structures and ideas is sweet. Without having a ton of linear tracks/channels in other DAW cluttering up the main screen!

This Chunk's notion in Digital Performer is long-past but unnoticed with DP only available for Apple platform before .

Ok.
DP8 is the first Windows release from MOTU.
I have taken a risk and used DP8 Windows to score 15 minutes TV Comic last week.
-In a project, There were 11 cues so 11 different sequences which has approximate 100 tracks each.
-Virtual instruments uses my 18 GB of ram
- Lots of plug-in effects!
- Lots of automations.
....
Result:
- Zero problem, zero crash.
Steinberg produces Cubase DAW for Windows about 20 years. If i start same project on C7, I had to spend %30 of my time with crashes, etc..
Bye bye Cubase 7, Welcome DP8

I also crafted some Themes: it's work but so attractive to a custom interface.
In addition, Themes are PC / Mac compatible. I'm am an amateur : I prefer free _

man DP8 has the slowest VST scan of any DAW!
And unfortunately it doesn't like half of VST either!
Certainly most of my Nebula and Nebula based VST don't work with it - why?!
None of my other DAW have issues here.
I also have problems recording midi properly
It's a shame as the Chunks feature is what I have been waiting for a long time for, in Windows that is

My experience too - Magix Independence Pro just hanged for me.CoolColJ wrote:man DP8 has the slowest VST scan of any DAW!

Waves Element synth does scan - but does not show anywhere to use it.
It's two month since I reported this - and 8.04 is what is available.
How are MOTU generally doing showstopper updates like this. The 8.04 is now soon 5 month old.
That made me cancel DP interest.

long time REAPER user, heard about Digital Performer like a million times already (along with fanbase with devotion comparable to REAPER), saw a windows demo, so decided to try it out just to see what the fuss was all about.
first impressions:
1) wtf it won't let me choose installation path?
2) wtf installing x86 and x64 versions at the same time?
3) wtf it's loading plugins from somewhere, where is it looking for vst plugins by default?
4) wtf no bit bridge?
5) wtf why VST scan is so slow?
6) wtf some of my plugins won't load? Tomato preamp got the plugin scanner confused so much that it displays something that looks like a C code? and it wouldn't allow me to skip Tomato and isn't intelligent enough to skip the plugin next time it starts?
7) okay, start screen looks kinda Studio One'ish
okay, same old story - different kinds of tracks
9) okay, i've got double the amount of plugins because of that (every plugin has mono/stereo version)
10) wtf multiple windows? no fast way to get to FX inserts on a track, i have to switch to mixer for that?
11) wtf it's got serious issues with showing tooltips - i can't see any for half of the toolbar buttons, and i don't feel like guessing
12) wtf no FLAC recording?
13) wtf where do i find ASIO configuration?
14) okay, i don't have time for this
15) wtf, no uninstall from start menu? i have to go to control panel for that?
sorry, not buying it. i'm happy for everyone who is happy with DP. not my cup of tea i guess.

I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.
