From the sound-on-sound review of kontakt 5, "Although Windows 7 is a quoted requirement, Kontakt has been running on Windows XP (service pack 3) on a 32‑bit machine throughout the course of this review, with no problems at all."-
might give it a go.

Indeed... "Xp" is just no longer "supported" by NI.metamorphosis wrote:From the sound-on-sound review of kontakt 5, "Although Windows 7 is a quoted requirement, Kontakt has been running on Windows XP (service pack 3) on a 32‑bit machine throughout the course of this review, with no problems at all."-

IIRC it was possible to run the installer for Kontakt 5 up till 5.1.0, but with 5.2.0 it's not possible to run it on XP anymore. You would have to use some tricks to make it work on XP.
My suggestion - ditch that bugger and move on to more modern (and better) W7.

Exactly. Of course, most software that doesn't support XP will still run on XP(unless it relies on newer technologies like DX10 or 11, etc.). Some installers will refuse to run on an unsupported OS< but I don't know about Kontakt 5 since I upgraded from XP long ago, so I can't test personally.metamorphosis wrote:From the sound-on-sound review of kontakt 5, "Although Windows 7 is a quoted requirement, Kontakt has been running on Windows XP (service pack 3) on a 32‑bit machine throughout the course of this review, with no problems at all."-

But I would still try it. You never know, it may run flawlessly. And definitely report back!

C'mon, you KNOW that isn't going to happen, lol.EvilDragon wrote:IIRC it was possible to run the installer for Kontakt 5 up till 5.1.0, but with 5.2.0 it's not possible to run it on XP anymore. You would have to use some tricks to make it work on XP.

But seriously, I echo that advice. Eventually, you may not have an option. Even many offices are moving to 7 and 8 because lots of industry software is leaving XP behind(it doesn't make sense supporting four versions back of an OS).
Doesn't mean he shouldn't try to get it to work. There may be a workaround where you can somehow extract the installer and do some tweaking, but I wouldn't know where to start there.

Same here. So now I understand why people care so much about GUIs...My spies inform me that ThomasHelzle wrote:I did miss the "profile" entry in the grey menu band (man that site has GUI issues).

Got the download and it installed nicely on my Win7 machine. Win8 gets to wait. The manual read well -- they sound like they know how to record a drum kit. The only disappointment at that stage was the hi-hat (but I'm exceedingly picky... it could have had a couple more degrees of openness, which I'd have swapped for velocity layers, to be honest...) I've yet to audition how they've handled hi-hat muting between degrees of openness, too (with my soundcard now down with my Win8 machine I'm really just watching the level meters... honest!
) I'm also impressed with how much effort they've put into the controls - although I get the feeling NI probably told them they had to include some of Kontakt's effects. I'll probably be running the kit as dry as possible until I get some idea of how it sounds.
CPU? Well, running the "Ballads - Groove Ride Shuffle - 03 6 8 Ballad G.mid" with pretty much everything as loaded (IIRC) used about 40% CPU on my AMD 4core 2.3GHz 4GB machine, which doesn't seem unreasonable. I'll have to see if it's usable in live play, though.
The website looked like Native Instruments' website team had built it, to me...

I am really enjoying DrumMic'A!, It sounds good alone and works great with other kits 'layered' up. The built-in KONTAKT processors and effects are really decent (As all KONTAKT 5 users will already know but just mentioning it for none KONTAKT users in case).
This is easily the best quality acoustic drum kit ROMpler around for gratis and quite easily demolishes many of the commercial offerings! If there are folks wondering if KONTAKT is worth it, I can't think of a better reason than this...Pull the trigger!
What a really nice treat to combat this stiflingly hot weather. Will be interesting to see if Sennheiser expand it in future plus other microphone brand competition step up to offer alternatives in order to try outshine one another = More free fine kits for all of us
Cheers and all the best to all as always

It's brilliant. It looks like it's a playable catalog of Sennheiser mikes.gamecat666 wrote:sounds too good to be true, there must be a catch!!
