What is the good "affordable" vst synth?

Folks, I don´t get your thinking...
If we are talking about an affordable synth, especially for a beginner/intermediate, there is only one person recommending MUX Modular???
I don´t get it...
For 59,-€ you get everything...
- one of the best sounding synth engines available with nearly no CPU hit with tons of prepared synths for subtractive and wavetable (wavescanning up to 1024 waveforms, vastly editable with clever import functions) synthesis including a very clever unison (up to 25 fully editable voices) with nearly endless additional possibilities but very easy to use...
- Multisampler
- Sampler
- Drumsampler
- tons of FX (Delays, Reverbs, Dynamics, Distortion, Experimental)
- VST/VSTi chainer
- Sequence possibilties
- Basic Wave editing
- complete modular enviroment if you want to (if not, use the premade stuff)
- active developed from one of the nicest developers I´ve ever seen on the market
this list you can continue nearly endless...
And that´s all for 59,-€... and why many people don´t recommend this???? Because you can use it as well as a modular synth/enviroment????
Don´t get me wrong... i.e. Synthmaster is a great synth but for the offered price is doesn´t offer 1/10th of Mux possibilities for nearly the double price...
And Mux isn´t hard to use... just load one of the hundreds of presets ... that´s it... no rocket sience unless you want it to...

Some will entice you with the "no more dongle" iLok. But while the dongle controversy is mostly about whether it is or isn't convenient, the quality of its build and dealing with the company when damaged... the larger problem with iLok is the software that it runs - with or without the dongle. (PACE)iPlogger wrote:Is iLok always a hardware key or does it offer a software key option?
Which is why quite a few of us won't get fooled by a company saying they no longer use iLok (meaning the dongle) while knowing full well and purposely doing everything they can to hide the fact it STILL uses PACE (which is still iLok).
BTW, eLicenser is different and uses a different software that doesn't parasite your resources like PACE/iLok. Although unless it's just their soft license, it does still takes one USB slot.

Affordable? I'd go with Sunrizer.. again. Or MUX Modular as suggested above.
Edit: Forgot I've already posted on this thread.

The iLok in the case of Air's instruments is a software manager. I have no problem with it personally. It gives two activations per synth which are manageable from iLok License Manager. No need for a dongle.DRS wrote:Hybrid3, Loom and Vacuum Pro for less than $80 right now at Plugin Boutique seems like a steal. Needs iLok thou.

I'm getting this as i speak. Was about to install Alchemy 1.5 after a fresh install of Win10 but i might not even bother. Sure, different beasts, but we'll see.
(And yeah, here i am helping another thread to grow listing everything lol). Anyways, hope it helps.
Actually, I prefer iLok soft than e-licenser soft because e-licenser soft gives you only one activation per software/instrument.
Anyway, there are 2 Air's Expansion Packs in the auction of the charity running now. It includes not only the three great synths above but Transfuser, Strike, Velvet and Structure. Transfuser and Strike became my favourite drums instruments, really so good. Structure is a sampler with big library (but not in the level of Kontakt IMO, still good and comes handy sometimes, while Velvet is a nice Electric Piano emulation
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Thanks so much for the replies. Yes, I was asking because of the charity auction for the AIR items. I have a Surface Pro which has just one USB port and I don't want to always hook up a USB hub to use it with my keyboard.

Just be careful that not all software don't need a usb dongle! For example, Slate Digital plugins require a physical iLok dongle (even for the demo). Also, be sure to uninstall all previous iLok managers before installing the latest one (which can be downloaded from iLok website).
Good luck

The eLicenser doesn't do this, only iLok/PACE.Markus Krause wrote:The [iLok/PACE] copy protection installs a Windows driver with root access to your computer. Furthermore several important Windows runtime libraries (dll files) are modified.
iLok/PACE changes the behavior of the Windows operating system. As a result hard- and software from other companies can crash or stop to operate.
The creators of iLok do not provide information about incompatibilities.

You know, i'd love to give Mux a try, but the modular approach, and the thousands of windows already give me the freaks when i just watch a video about it. The problem of Mux, and why it never got more popular than it is, lies in its approach, and there's nothing to do about that. And i'd surely not recommend it to a beginner. Rather to people who are used to synthesis for years and years. Pretty sure it's a cool synth then.Trancit wrote:Forgot to post:

You should! There is a free version.chk071 wrote:You know, i'd love to give Mux a try
I was a total beginner to synthesis when I got Mux (and also switched to MuLab). It was very easy to understand as a noob
Each module has a few simple controls on the front panel (but more inside). You focus only on one module(s) you need. Thus, you stay "in the flow" with few distractions.
IMHO affordable in money and in mind....
