Until further notice, I am happy to host anyone's tracks in these competitions. I've got plenty of space yet limited bandwidth. I don't think it's a problem but I haven't really pushed it too much - except for that month with the commentary thing...

Of course it's good! I'm listening to it right now. Theere's something about the notes that makes me think there's a slightly off key but I wouldn't say it's out of tune... no... nevermind, it's fine. I don't know what I'm thinking. That big bass sound makes me think:

A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride

Haven't heard that song in awhile!

Anyway, your song's pretty cool. Not too meaty, but not bad. It doesn't develop too much and I think the fade out could be more gradual but it's got a good dark slow motion futuristic feel and I could imagine it fitting in well as soundtrack to nightlife on Bespin.

Thanks for the extensive answer, You! There were a lot of interesting suggestions in it which I'm certainly gonna try. I think the main point, to which I agree, is that in order to achieve the orchestral timbre you can't get away with one chord pad and a lead sound, you need to develop several parts and play them ín 'character', like real instrumentalists would.

Yeah, and don't just duplicate parts. Make each track subtly different. A real orchestra has a lot of people playing. Computers and synths are too precise.

havent listened to the tune yet(always wait till theyre all in)but i hope its not similar to the tunes they were playing on bespin during my tour of duty there

Remember all that talk about patents? Microsoft has patented the To Do list among other things! Some have claimed ownership to formulas, plants, animals, what next?!

I wonder if, as technology allows, it would behoove us to find a way to patent the more personal or familial traits of our genome in perpituity as a bullwork against the future obsolescence of Darwinian evolution. I hope that biotech and genomics never get to the point of culling individuality from the gene pool, but I could easily see a future (as written so often in the past 20 years) where people could pick and choose traits for themselves and their offspring. Who is happy enough with themselves to keep things exactly as they are?

I have been thinking about posting something about web hosting for a week or two, so this is not intended as a response to the posts immediately above

Maybe it's time for another "current web-hosting options" thread in an appropriate forum

Currently, web hosting with decent storage and monthly bandwidth allowances can be found for less than US$100/year

Domain registration is another $15/year or so (not always needed, if you don't mind a URL that uses the name of the hosting provider)

IMO, if anyone is serious about this as a hobby or more than a hobby, they should at least consider including the web-hosting expense in the annual budget ... I would say the same for digital graphic artists as well

But as I mentioned, the details about current options should be discussed in a separate thread in an appropriate forum

Got my entry in at last

I wanted to get a "BIG" sound in this entry so tried out loads of new techniques and instruments that I hadn't used before.

Cheers people for the advice on drums, i ended up using five drum tracks (NSKit7 kick, snare, hi-hat, cymbals and DrumWizard Electric drums)! Eq'd and then mixed them down to one track when I'd got them right, to save processing power.

The bass was the Iblit mono synth. The orchestra was Squid Soundfont and the NS Timpany.
I also used.
Ambience, SIR, Classic Reverb, Blockfish, Endorphin, EQ thing (forgotten the name), TLS Max, MDA Stereo, MDA E-Piano, Delta Ping and Inspector. I think thats all...
