The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I mean more for the customer than the support department, but I imagine it's also going to be a PITA for them too, since they'll have to keep track of exactly what the customer has, beyond the already annoying three(?) versions of Sonar.pekbro wrote:Why should this be a nightmare? all you should need is a well designed relational database really. Not so hard, at least
on their end. Any issues on the customer end should exist regardless of what add ons
they have or don't have.

It's really not all that bad or complex. If figuring out what you're buying, what you have or what you need is too complex across 3 versions which are clearly spelled out on the website, you're in the wrong industry.Jace-BeOS wrote:I mean more for the customer than the support department, but I imagine it's also going to be a PITA for them too, since they'll have to keep track of exactly what the customer has, beyond the already annoying three(?) versions of Sonar.
It's really no different than Cubase with Elements, Artist and Pro. Pro Tools with First, Pro Tools and HD. Studio One with Prime, Artist or Pro... I think you see the trend. The only difference is that Cakewalk is actively adding to their products constantly. They release a PDF and website update every time they do update with detailed information on what is being added, what it does, etc. Not sure how much more hand holding you're expecting.
To me, it seems like some people here are salty because of certain users on their forums or because the old company (admittedly) was pretty terrible. Especially under the rule of Roland. X3 was the first steps in correcting those issues. It's been a long process but I'm glad I stuck it out because what we've got now is a fantastic product that is consistently getting better and they are making hardcore efforts to correct long term issues like support. Not going to happen overnight though.

Well, I gave it the "old college try" as they say here in the U.S. No idea if anything will come from it, but I'm not very hopeful at this point.

Ugh. Don't know how you can stand that patronizing mix of gloat and spin. The constant deflection of any sort of criticism of Cakewalk, combined with shady subtle digs at competitors, (as well as over-use of italics), suggests a slightly deranged mindset.

What exactly are you giving a "try" at?telecharge wrote:Well, I gave it the "old college try" as they say here in the U.S. No idea if anything will come from it, but I'm not very hopeful at this point.

Did I miss where you have a specific problem (other than stressing that CW support is sh*t at the moment)?
If your point is to continuously stress that fact, you've done it and then some. But then again, it was a dead horse when you took up the "cause".

I had a look at the thread. You don't come well out of it.telecharge wrote:Well, I gave it the "old college try" as they say here in the U.S. No idea if anything will come from it, but I'm not very hopeful at this point.

Core engine features differing from version to version? Meh... I'm not a fan of breaking a product down into as many marketing packages as possible. I'm cool with a pro and a lite version of things, but it gets kind of offensive when there are three or more levels of product variation, upgrade pricing, cut offs on upgrade eligibility, and then feature ala carte?? Again: meh.Mystic wrote:It's really not all that bad or complex. As for all the rest of your comments... Yeah, I'm not happy with my experience with Cakewalk. I don't go out of my way to rant about it, but I participate when these threads come up (hopefully I come off as at least somewhat reasonable). I wish them well, but what I'm seeing from over here is rather not impressing me. I keep watching because I was with them a long time and I still have their synths on my Mac in some of my Logic projects. Hearing about the Mac port and the lifetime upgrades offer got my attention, but their site's inability to be clear on my price lost my attention almost immediately (related to the point above).
