This may surprise but.. THE bass synth for me in Reason is Subtractor :D

I have a pile of REs but IMO there's no synth in Reason that could do a bass like Subtractor can. Plus it's mono by default.

I'm not surprised :) Subtractor is awesome for basses!

Aaaaand here you go https://www.dropbox.com/s/bu1vwxdep0qvn ... r.fxp?dl=0 :)

Nothing special there really. Then I had LFO tool and EQ after Serum. EQ settings were: cut from 30hz and 8dB notch at around 235(?)hz.
Thanks. Indeed it's a very simple patch, but I was always overthinking it. Now I got a good reference at least.

Well.. If you want to overthink, I have some songs cooking that have something very different than simple bass sound ;)

You might want to demo http://www.g-sonique.com/ultrabassmx.html for basses. At first may sound like crap but when you become familiar with it, it's a beast.

I was just going to comment that

1. Sounds great :tu:

2. Sounds like something I listened at the end of the 90's and at the beginning of 2000's :D

Very nostalgic. Love it.

cheers.

My original one was sort inspired by "man with no name - teleport" , which I had on some dodgy rave tape I had knocking about.

That's proper oldschool track :tu:

I know this Ultrapower, really nice melodic psy maybe a bit too clubby for me though, typical Israeli stuff.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Any love for the more night time orientated psytrance on here?

Do love my prog and goa but for me it's this kinda stuff that keeps me properly glued to the dancefloor...

I've done some detective work with those nasty phase peaks that occur when you toss an eq to a bassline.

Well linear phase eq obviously fights with that. But when using a stock eq for example, I found few tools that can tame those peaks.

1. Toneboosters Ferox and/or Reelbus.

These are tape effects. With careful adjusting, those peaks can be tamed pretty nicely, without affecting the sound too much. If at all actually. Though I noticed that usual side effect for these 2 is, that sound is warmed up or fattened. Boosts bass frequencies and dulls the highs if not careful.

But works and sounds nice :tu:

2. Kilohearts Disperser.

This one nailed it most of the times. I don't really know what this does and adjusting this is a bit of hit n miss -type of working, but luckily it only has 2 knobs and one slider so.. Nothing too overwhelming :hihi:

Depends a bit on what you feed in to it, but 99% of basslines I ran through it, were pretty nicely set to the level I want (aim was to -12dB peak and Disperser got it to around -11dB). It affected the sound a bit, most of the times, but nothing annoying. Though if you want CERTAIN sound, disperser usually messes it.
