Anyone jumped ship / switched DAW this year?

Am tooling up a new studio rig and using all Presonus hardware.

In Las Vegas the floors of the hotels always slope downwards towards the casinos to tempt those careless feet to lead you to your doom. Presonus hardware does the same with Studio One.

I did EXACTLY the same thing and I can assure you that I have not stopped regretting the doom since.

Hmmm. Well a significant problem with the Artists edition is that doesn't support VST plugs, so the only way you can assess the product is try before you buy, and I'm not interested in those kinds of games.

The nay-saying appears to be going both ways actually, people not believing others who do have the problem and people not believing others who don't have the problem, and somewhere in the middle are the thousands of people not using samplers or software instruments who couldn't care less.

Didn't switch, but I'm using Studio One more than Cubase and FL Studio more than Studio one recently!

Both Cubase (8.5 Artist) and Studio One (v3 Pro) are poor in CPU usage, but S1 has a better performance in loading and saving projects. It also has a better workflow working with windows and overall organisation.

I still use Reaper and Live (9 Intro) for testing quick ideas, but FL Studio might have it all (good performance, fast workflow, great beats making and detailed midi editing). I'm starting a project after I finished basic courses in FL Studio and Harmor, and so far, I'm liking the whole experience

If FL Studio had ARA it would be my main DAW!
But now FLS is a contender for my Main DAW along
with Studio One 3, Sonar Platinum and Reaper on the
bottom of the list. I was also looking at Samplitude but
now have sort off decide against it.

So I must decide soon between FLS, S1, Sonar and Reaper.
Might be that the upcoming FLS 13 release may change
everything. Gotta say they are fantastic DAW's, it is the
little details in the end which will make the difference.

I'm still getting impressed with FL Studio and it would not surprise me if I end up not using Reaper at all, even for audio editing which I thought I would still keep using. Plenty of time to keep exploring but I keep finding there is an FL way that is not what I am used to with Reaper but is actually easier and better.

Agree as far as all of the DAWs are pretty good now - though I was really sick of a few things with Reaper that got me looking around for something new

(2017) Thinking of switching back to PC, since Apple recently started doing stupid things with it's computers, from hardware to pricing standpoints, but can't find a replacement for Logic which I would like as much. I have Live Lite, which I occasionally use for it's warping abilities, but for sequencing and recording audio it is still the same clumsy interface as 15 years ago - no mouse scroll zoom, no comping, no real mixer... oh well...

Studio One could be worth a look. I've found that, IMHO, it's set up similarly to Logic X, but with some workflow tweaks that make it a bit more user-friendly.

Midi is a central of my projects. I don't sing and rarely I record audio, so that FL Studio is an attractive choice, especially the more I know about the tools in the Piano Roll.

To be honest, I believe most hosts these days are powerful enough in both midi and audio that can do the job. It's a matter of taste and comfort I believe!

That is a big list of improvements/fixes in version 13! Thanks for sharing it

Actually, I have never thought that I would be an FL Studio user one day!! I kept demoing it though since version 4, but I was mostly using Cubase that time (with some periods of Sonar 4). Anyway, for now, I don't know if it is psychological or not, I feel my enthusiasm getting low very quickly with Cubase and other similar DAWs! While with FL Studio I'm getting a new fresh feeling it makes me concentrate on planning different patterns and connect them in my mind first.
Yesterday, was odd, as I didn't feel the time passing by! I did some beats in FLS, and it was already three hours gone resulting in some patterns from Battery 3 and Akai MPC Essentials plugin! That made me feel glad as for years I have been not productive at all (completely blocked).

So, maybe, the patterns way of thinking makes me concentrate more and not get lost here and there! I don't know really. Anyway, time is the best tester and can prove or disprove my initial thoughts and feelings.

same pretty much, I'd tried and rejected FL a few times and not looked at it in a few years - I am finding this first piece (for a TaiChi instructor, 18mins + video) is getting sketched out quickly in a way I would never do in Reaper. The pattern method allows for quick mockups and testing with later replacement of samples etc and refinement. I guess I could do that in Reaper but I never did.
And I am enjoying working through the various videos and finding new ways to work - it's energising


(I used to really dislike the interface, but FL has moved to a vector base and it seems a lot nicer, although I am still struggling with all the windows, looks like that will be fixed in FL13 though)

Indeed ARA would be cool in FLS. Audio processing is the weak point of it, as it was never its purpose I guess.
For electronic stuff it's great, for recording one's instrument takes, it's quite annoying.

For audio stuff and mixing, Cubase, S1 or Reaper? This is the question...

what are the weaknesses ? I have not tackled the audio section much and was thinking I would keep using Reaper for recording. For already recorded audio the Clipfx seem okay though - I've been using automation clips and grouping/binding them with the individual audio clips. In some ways I like that better than the Reaper method but have no idea what is the best/most common method.
