'A Boy and his Dog'
1) it's one of the better post-Apocalypse America treatments and I'm a sucker for those 'forbidden zone' civilization struggles up out of desolation stories (see Mad Max trilogy. Matrix trilogy)
2) Harlan Ellison's bad pun lying in wait till the tag end of the movie
3) now there's also the oddity of seeing a very young Don Johnson at the start of his career (pre-Miami Vice)

Top 3:
1) Logan's Run (I love the retro future style of this film and probably Jerry Goldsmiths best film score)
2) 1984
3) Soylent Green
I guess I have a thing for sci-fi government conspiracy/big brother movies.
Oh and about the metropolis techno score...a couple people have done scores for metropolis but I think it is Jeff Mills someone was thinking about.

The Blob. The old black and white version. Saw that as a child and it scared me for a long, long time. It did come from space, you know.
I'll also throw Alien and Aliens 2 in there.

John Carpenter's The Thing.
That's also my favorite Sci-Fi short story (Who goes there?)
And one of my favorite soundtracks (Ennio Morriconne(?))

John Carpenter's older films and scores (including The Thing) are some of my favorite as well. I love Assault On Precinct 13.
Getting away from Sci-Fi and more into horror some of my favorite films are Dario Argento's Italian horror films...the scores by the band Goblin are amazing.
I would have to say that my favorite film scores are by...
Goblin
Ennio Morricone
John Carpenter
Jerry Goldsmith

Hm... a lot of Lynch-Dune fans here, which I find surprising. I mean, the movie is so BAD compared to the book, and it has been cut/recut/crosscut/overcut so many times to create a spectacular mess...
How come nobody mentioned the NEW Dune TV series? Personally, I thought it was spectacular considering its budget - and with the exception of the actor playig Paul, very nice acting too.

to me it's blade runner, but one that's a little unknown and still very good is 'screamers' (also based on a story of p.k. dick). For a low-budget movie, it's quite good.
edit: wait, it has been mentioned already
