Don't think he owns either of those. He probably could do a Ultranova vs. Slim Phatty comparison though. But what exactly would be the point of that?
Apart from the Slim Phatty wiping the floor with the Ultranova for analog sounds, and the Ultranova wiping the floor with the Phatty for complex, digital sounds.

Just wondered how it's compared to the voyager.

The dullness of the sound probably has a lot to do with the perceived power of the Sub37. Same with electric basses, the more muted, the more solid they appear.egbert101 wrote:He (Starsky Carr) does a comparison video between a Sub 37 and a Prophet 6.chk071 wrote:Don't think he owns either of those. They must both win as they're analogue, right?![]()

Legend + Bitwig 2.0 modulators =
I agree with the overall view of the OP video.
Legend overall the best, and with the low cpu usage is the clear winner.
Monark was good enough to me to be a real mini (a slightly more aggressive variant) and with reaktor6 it can be expanded no end.
however the high cpu usage and reaktor wrapper make it somehow frustrating.
Diva's mini has a muffledl sound. also Diva went for morphable oscilators so probably couldn't recreate the exact imperfections in the sawtooths and other shapes + how they beat while free running.
edit : the new arturia mini V 3 with the new 0df filter sounds decent (unlike the old version)

No 0df on Arturia Mini V-3. Upgraded filter, but no 0df.olikana wrote: (though not sure if the arturia got upgraded to 0df since the original mini V) .

I thought an Arturia rep on here said that it was 0df and even linked to a paper describing the updated tech.waltercruz wrote:No 0df on Arturia Mini V-3. Upgraded filter, but no 0df.olikana wrote: (though not sure if the arturia got upgraded to 0df since the original mini V) .

Well, I'm not a specialist, but it seems that their ZDF doesn't cover the non-linear parts of the filter. I'm not a specialist, so, don't quote me on this. There's some discussion about this on a topic called "Arturia synth development".

so yes the arturia one is updated to a 0df. last time i tried the miniV was many years ago and thought it was poor but the new version might be worthy.
a 0df can be linear or nonlinear...as long as ther'se no delay in the filter feedback it behaves like an analog filter . not all analogs have saturation going on. for example the korg minilogue is pretty linear . so was synths like the jx-8p. but the minimoog has a lot of saturation in the filter so also the nonlinear parts need to be replicated to sound authentic.
the old softsynth filters without 0df shouldn't be refered as analog at all...and are responsible for the plasticky smudged electronic sound of the 2000-2010 where music sounded like garbage (apart from the few artists that used analogs).

From that topic, don't even know if zdf/non-linear whatever are that important. The only point that seems to be a concern to me is that Arturia explicitly choose to 'fix' a 'design flaw' from moog filter on their current version (self-oscillation dying when filter cutoff is around 200hz, 150hz). According to other developers, this 'feature/design flaw' gives to minimoog filter part of their character. But all of modelling seems to be a lot of trade-offs.
But, as I said, in some situations, Arturia Mini-V3 is just what I need: a good emulation for certain situations. And I like it in these situations
And Arturia software development seems to be alive again, this is a good thing.
(My intention is not more Arturia-hating or anything, I hope that this topic doesn't derail too much)
