Loved that show as a kid, though when the show started to revolve around Dr. Smith, who should've been 'spaced' at the first opportunity, I lost interest. Nattering Ninny! Little Billy Mumy playing an old Martin guitar was kewl!

I actually think it's pretty horrible and I can hear quite a bit of Star Wars in certain parts. Really? I think Carpenter's music is awful, the furthest thing from "incidental music" imaginable. It takes me out of the moment every time.
You know, it amazes me how many people seem to have the inability to separate things they like for nostalgic reasons from things that were actually good. Honestly, it does my head in.

Yeah, it was third on my list, after 633 Squadron and Thunderbirds. Someone has already put Thunderbirds up so I'll finish with 633 Squadron -
Of course, putting things up with no explanation is a waste of time so here goes. 633 Squadron is the perfect "boys own adventure theme" but you just have to hear it to know it has something to do with flight. Until I went looking for it on YouTube just now, I had forgotten it was about Mosquitos (which I thought was a different movie, appropriately enough named "Mosquito Squadron"). There was supposed to be a remake a few years ago but I don't know what happened to it.
Thunderbirds is amazing because it is such a great orchestral piece in it's own right. It's something I doubt I will ever get tired of hearing.
The opening theme from DS9 grabbed me from the first time I watched the show. The way it builds up to the fanfare really gets you in. It was on at 11pm in Australia but I always used to plug the TV into my stereo and listen to it loud through my headphones.

Yeah, that's a real earsore. Shame, as I quite liked the series, it was the most warlike Trek, which is a good thing. Producers must have realized the power of the theme song as they replaced it with instrumental versions in later seasons.

Returning to the subject of ripoffs, I thought Tangerine Dream's blatant stealing of Steve Reich for Risky Business was pretty well-done (though Reich was not at all happy with it) :
