The excitement over the news is kind of funny to me. I recall Matthais (probably botched the spelling - apologies) or one of the other Steiny reps saying on the Cubase forums a few years ago that work had begin to transition away from the dongle. I took that as an official announcement way back when.
I'm not expecting them to go sub-only. I also expect whatever they do will be customer focused enough that I can install Cubase on a laptop and a desktop. Seems like a nice win. Although, I'm expecting it will require an update to the latest Cubase. Can't see them making this retroactive (still on 10.5.20). But it would be great if they did!

Well, except we are talking about VSL, that use the same dongle.MrBauer wrote: Sat Mar 06, 2021 1:51 pm Yeah because the licenses are lost if the dongle is broken(not true of course)
If you don't have their insurance and break the key you pay 20 EUR/license on it (minimum of 30 EUR), if it get's stolen or you lost it, you pay _half_ of the original price to get your licenses to a new dongle.

I think this is quite a good observation, even though I'm looking forward to Cubase 11.5 for (hopefully, finally) its renewed remote control.Cancel Culture Club wrote: Sat Mar 06, 2021 3:27 pm Some people may see these moves to subscription based business models as innovative, while others see it as a desperate attempt to retain their market share...
I believe audio software companies are starting to realize that pretty much all imaginable devices have already been created. Sure you can have variations of variations, but I think most people can survive without updating their DAW every year or so.
Yeah, I guess the most important reason is the time investment an familiarity with the particular DAW. To me it is.Cancel Culture Club wrote: Sat Mar 06, 2021 3:27 pm]Most people stick with a brand or company because they're committed and have some sort of equity incentive.
When Logic went Mac-only many years ago, it was painful as a PC user. I switched to Cubase.
I just hope I won't feel the need to switch again.

Double post... (something went wrong, it's like hitting the edit button but in fact the quote button is activated.
Please why isn't it possible to delete a post directly after posting?)
