Always makes me chuckle when people talk "value" around these things in terms of money. This spec sheet is bigger than that spec sheet therefore...whatever. As with many others I already own a bunch of FabFilter stuff including the previous version of Twin. Was $45 for me. No brainer to buy that update. It costs about the same as one not-great meal out with my family and unlike that meal I keep getting value out of it. Would I buy it for the $129 price? No but I wouldn't buy ANYTHING at that price when I know there are always sales on things during the year. Great that Vital is free but I wonder if he's making a living off of it (seems doubtful). And Surge? C'mon, thats an open source project that at one point was a commercial product. Its great that there is a vibrant community around it and good devs doing good work. Its awesome we have so much choice out there of so many great-sounding instruments including this update that took far too long.

The two Fabfilter plugins I use the most are still Pro-G and Pro-DS and are in dire need for updates. Hopefully they're slated next for updates (is there anything left?), if only just to get a resizable GUI. I can see Pro-G getting features to turn it into more of a creative gate plugin where needed. Not sure what you do with a De-esser. This release just has no appeal to me personally but I don't begrudge them for updating Twin.

well..it has 4 osc's, instead of 2. 2 extra filters (per voice, or routed in a different way).
(IMHO) a better sounding reverb.

But yeah...nothing special about Twins3. The sound is really good. Other then that; basic synth with a very good looking, but quite terrible in use UI

Sounds very good, but feature wise it lacks a little bit

Post

Soundwise it reminds me of Audio Damage's Continua (but without the bugs).

Twin 3 is coming to iOS soon! The days of iOS synths with only 2-3 envelopes and 2 LFOs are finally over! Flowtones and Synthmaster are no longer exceptions.

What features is it lacking for what is is? I know others have put some nice-to-haves but this is not intended to be a Phaseplant, or Icarus, or Vital, etc. They kept it true to what it has always been while adding some more features and making it sound better.

Post

I suppose it adds their range of FX to the synth as well. Their filter, delay, saturation, eq, reverb and whatever else I left out.
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

I think it has a very similar vibe to Toneboosters Flowtone. 4 Oscs, clumsy "modern" GUI, "vintage" sound..
I still haven't demoed, but doesn't look very appealing to me.

Makes sense to me to release a synth that ties all the FF ecosystem and workflow together.
You get a bit of every fabfilter product in one nice package.

Sure if you have already 36547 different synths might not be for you.

....... Also, they finally implemented proper scaling into the plugin meaning you can have much larger text and knobs which is fantastic for me as my eye sight isn't what it used to be (and it was shit to begin with!).

..........
HI bmanic.
How does one increase the knob and text size?
thanks

Even considering the concept of "a very simple subtractive synth that sounds great" it's still lacking.

They could have added tons of little improvements that would still keep it simple but added value. Reordering of the effects. More modulators like MSEGs. More reverb and distortion algos. More stuff in the feedback path of the delay like detune and distortion. Etc.

Looking at Twin 3 as an improvement of Twin 2 it's certainly amazing. But it's disappointing they decided to go with this concept considering all the DSP FF is known for. For years I've been dreaming about a FF synth that would harness the power of their creative effects in a single environment but what's the point of having Saturn reduced to a single knob?

Oh well. It's nor for me but I hope they sell a lot of copies.

Demod it and find it pretty underwhelming .
The filter algo's are still nowhere near the quality of Tal-u-he -cytomic .
Sure there is a plethora of modulation sources , but to what use when the osc mod. remains limited severely limited ?
No fm , no Real Osc sync , No filter Fm .
It's essentially fabfilter twin 2 with a few more bells and whistles , hard to believe they didn't include some more stuff , they had 13 years the time .
